A care worker broke down in tears on This Morning today as she discussed losing her job over mandatory Covid vaccines.
The government had originally planned to insist all NHS workers had Covid vaccines, or they'd be forced to give up their jobs, but in a U-turn, the Health Secretary Sajid Javid confirmed this would no longer be the case.
However, some care workers are still out of a job as their employment was axed prior to Javid's recent announcement.
NHS care worker Louise Akester appeared on the show today to discuss being fired, as she broke down in tears when she was asked by the hosts if she'd ever take her job back.
Host Vernon Kay - who is stepping in for Phillip Schofield who is currently isolating at home with Covid - asked her: "If they offered you your job back, would you say yes or no?"
As she broke down in tears, she replied: "Now I kind of feel like I was just a number. It hurts.
"When I was there, I was getting all the praise and all the thanks. I felt good because I was there, I was helping. I was doing my bit. After they said to me, they didn't want to lose me, I was one of the best workers. All the residents absolutely love you."
She went on to claim she was invited back to visit - but when she tried to, she wasn't allowed.
"They said, don't be a stranger, come visit. Because you still visit if you aren't vaccinated, just not work there," she added, "But then when I did go and try and visit, they wouldn't let me in."
Rochelle leant over to hand Louise - who has since gone on to retrain as a lorry driver - a tissue.
Mr Javid made the announcement to the House of Commons earlier this week.
"I believe it is no longer proportionate to require vaccination as a condition of employment through statute," he said, "So today, I am announcing we will launch a consultation on ending vaccination as a condition of deployment in health and all social care settings.
"Subject to the responses, and the will of this House, the government will revoke the regulations."
