Cardinals’ Week 17 defensive snap counts, observations vs. Eagles

The Arizona Cardinals beat the Philadelphia Eagles on the road on Sunday 35-31. They played 49 defensive snaps.

Five players were on the field for every one of those snaps.

How was the defensive playing time divided up?

Below are the individual snap counts for everyone who got into the game, groups by position.

Defensive line

Dante Stills, 30; Kevin Strong, 25; Roy Lopez, 24; Phil Hoskins, 19; Naquan Jones, 10

The snap counts were down because the Cardinals played so much on offense, dominating time of possession.

Stills left the game briefly with an injury but returned.

Outside linebacker

BJ Ojulari, 32; Zaven Collins, 31; Dennis Gardeck, 27; Victor Dimukeje, 18; Tyreke Smith, 8

Smith made his debut for the Cardinals. Ojulari beat out Collins in number of snaps. Cameron Thomas was inactive.

Inside linebacker

Krys Barnes, 49; Owen Pappoe, 37

Barnes played every snap and Pappoe played more. The Cardinals were in base defense most of the game.

Cornerbacks

Antonio Hamilton, 49; Starling Thomas, 49; Garrett Williams, 12

Williams got hurt, injuring his ankle or he would have played more.

Safeties

Budda Baker, 49; Jalen Thompson, 49; Andre Chachere, 17; Joey Blount, 4

Chachere got playing time after Williams got hurt because Thompson played in the after that. Blount came in for dime defenses and picked off the final throw of the game from Jalen Hurts.
