Cardinals trade QB Josh Dobbs to Vikings

The Arizona Cardinals made a trade before Tuesday’s deadline. Per multiple reports, the Cardinals agreed to trade quarterback Josh Dobbs to the Minnesota Vikings.

Dobbs started the first eight games of the season, leading them to a 1-7 start.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cardinals are sending Dobbs and a seventh-round pick to the Vikings for a sixth-round pick in next year’s draft. Schefter notes that there is a possibility for the Cardinals’ seventh-round selection being sent to the Vikings to become a sixth-round pick.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon announced Dobbs would be benched this week. It was perhaps because a deal was in place in principle.

The Vikings found themselves in a position needing a quarterback as starter Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles and has been lost for the season. Dobbs and his seven years and 10 starts of experience now head to Minnesota to either start or back up rookie Jaren Hall.

The trade likely means that the team expects Kyler Murray will be activated from PUP this week, either to start in Week 9 or back up rookie Clayton Tune.
