The Arizona Cardinals Have begun to fill their 90-man offseason roster. Earlier this week, the team announced it signed 14 players to “futures” contracts for 2023. Eleven of those players were on the Cardinals’ practice squad at the end of the season.
The other three are a punter, kicker and long snapper, as the Cardinals’ current trio of specialists — kicker Matt Prater, punter Andy Lee and long snapper Aaron Brewer — are all set to become free agents when the new league year begins.
The Cardinals signed punter Nolan Cooney, kicker Elliot Fry and long snapper Joe Fortunato among the 14 players added to the reserve/futures list.
Players who were not on an active roster at the conclusion of the season can sign contracts that will not take effect until the 2023 league year begins in March.
Cooney was with the Cardinals last offseason and training camp. He also spent a little time on the practice squad this year.
Fry has appeared in three games in his career in 2020-2021. He has one game each with the Falcons, Chiefs and Bengals. He has made 5-of-6 field goal attempts and 5-of-7 extra points.
Fortunato played one game as long snapper in 2021 for the Packers.
