Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins’ days as a member of the Arizona Cardinals could be almost over. The team apparently is actively shopping him and has placed him on the trading block.
According to Bally Sports’ Mike Silver, whose sources are all general managers, Hopkins was one of three star players shopped in recent days at the NFL combine in Indianapolis, which came to a close on Sunday.
Hopkins is due more than $19 million in salary this coming season and will count more than $30 million against the cap.
He is coming off two injury-shortened seasons, missing 15 games over the last two years due to injuries and suspension.
He had 64 receptions for 717 yards and three touchdowns last season in nine games.
Soon to be 31 years old, he is still one of the league’s very best receivers but probably does not want to be part of a rebuild.
The Cardinals can save more than $8 million cap space by trading him.
Arizona is believed to be seeking first-round pick for Hopkins.
If a deal is going to happen, it is expected to happen before the start of the new league year when free agency begins.
