Cardinals-Ravens preseason live scoring updates, updates, reactions

The Arizona Cardinals did not end the Baltimore Ravens’ record preseason winning streak at State Farm Stadium. After falling behind 17-3, they did make things interesting.

With quarterback Kyler Murray calling plays in the fourth quarter, they rallied for two touchdowns and had the ball with less than four minutes to go with a chance to tie or win the game.

Missed FG!

Kicker Matt Prater missed two extra points in the preseason opener and opens the game with a 54-yard miss.

The offense gets 33 yards in 10 plays, including a 15-yard Baltimore penalty. Quatrerback Trace McSorley’s two incompletions end the drive and they come away without points

Defensive starters

Devon Kennard and Deionte Thompson had not played in the preseason. They get the start on defense.

Here are the defensive starters for Arizona:

  • DL Jonathan Ledbetter
  • DL Michael Dogbe
  • DL Rashard Lawrence
  • OLB Dennis Gardeck
  • OLB Devon Kennard
  • ILB Zaven Collins
  • ILB Zeke Turner
  • CB Antonio Hamilton

  • S Charles Washington
  • S Deionte Thompson

CB Jace Whittaker is the nickel cornerback in the slot. DL Christian Ringo also gets some snaps on the initial drive

Ravens 3, Cardinals 0

The Ravens get the first points in the game but are kept out of the end zone after they make it in a goal-to-go situation.

Deionte Thompson goes for a strip instead of a tackle that ends up going for 21 yards and the Ravens have a receiver left wide open that gets them in the red zone.

But Dennis Gardeck gets pressure, Zaven Collins has a tackle for loss and Devon Kennard and Jonathan Ledbetter end the drive with a third-down sack.

Justin Tucker makes the 29-yard field goal to get the Ravens on the board.

Big kick return!

Ward starts the next drive with a 48-yard return. Check it out!

Trace McSorley picked off

The Cardinals can’t convert on the big return by Ward. Andy Isabella has a nice catch-and-run for a first down but, after Isabella is flagged for a false start, the Cardinals end up going for it on fourth down and McSorley gets intercepted as he runs to his right, trying to get the ball to rookie tight end Trey McBride.

Ravens 10, Cardinals 0

The Ravens go 80 yards on 10 plays with a few missed tackles. Isaiah Likely scores on an eight-yard pass from Tyler Huntley after he has a 36-yard catch when James Wiggins missed a tackle.

Charles Washington hurt

Washington leaves the game in the second quarter with a chest injury. He heads to the locker room. James Wiggins replaces him and misses a couple of tackles on the drive. He is ruled out for the rest of the game.

RB Jonathan Ward injured

After returning his third kick of the night, Ward exits the game with a shoulder injury and is ruled out for the rest of the game.

He finishes his night with three rushes for 11 yards, one reception for 27 yards and three kick returns for 90 yards, including one 48-yard return.

Ravens 10, Cardinals 3

The Cardinals get on the board with nine seconds remaining in the first half. They get some pass down the field. One goes to Vic Bolden and the other to Greg Dortch. However, after having first-and-goal at the one-yard line, they fail to score a touchdown. McSorley is stuffed at the goalline on a scramble. Eno Benjamin is buried for a loss and a wide-open Bolden drops a pass in the end zone, leading to a 21-yard kick from Matt Prater.

McSorley picked off again

The first drive of the second half looks promising after Andy Isabella draws a pass interference call that nets 37 yards and he adds a first down on a reception, but McSorley is intercepted the very next play. The Ravens take over in Arizona territory.

Ravens 17, Cardinals 3

The Ravens capitalize on the interception to go up by two scores. It takes six plays to go 35 yards and Anthony Brown throws a three-yard touchdown pass to running back Tyler Badie.

It appears the Ravens’ win streak will continue.

Ravens 24, Cardinals 3

Cornerback Josh Jackson struggles in this drive. He is called for pass interference and then is beat in coverage by Ravens receiver Raleigh Webb, who hauls in a 38-yard touchdown pass.

Ravens 24, Cardinals 10

Kyler Murray takes over playcalling in the fourth quarter and McSorley leads the Cardinals on a touchdown drive. Victor Bolsen has receptions of 13 and 19 yards, running back T.J. Pledger has one for 14 and running back Keaontay Ingram has a 21-yard reception on 3rd-and-19. McSorley scores from a yard out.

INT!

On the very first play from scrimmage on the Ravens’ next drive, rookie linebacker Chandler Wooten picks off a pass and the Cardinals start in the red zone.

Ravens 24, Cardinals 17

After the interception, undrafted rookie quarterback Jarrett Guarantano tosses a 15-yard touchdown pass to undrafted rookie receiver Jontre Kirklin. If the Cardinals get a stop, then things could be interesting.

Turnover on downs

After getting the ball with a chance to tie or take the lead, Guarantano is sacked twice and then, on fourth down, he can’t connect down the field with Kirklin.

The Ravens will win their 22nd preseason game in a row.
