Editor note: Virginia Tech officially announced the hiring of Siefkes as defensive coordinator
Seemingly suddenly, the assistants on the Arizona Cardinals’ coaching staff under Jonathan Gannon are drawing interest for other jobs with other teams. The latest involves linebackers coach Sam Siefkes.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Virginia Tech is targeting Siefkes for their defensive coordinator position.
Thamel has coached the Cardinals’ linebackers for the last two seasons and spent the previous two with the Minnesota Vikings as defensive quality control coach in 2021 and assistant linebackers coach in 2022.
Prior to that, he worked in the college ranks, including three seasons at Wofford College as the defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach.
Among other Cardinals coaches who have had interest from other teams, offensive coordinator Drew Petzing interviewed for the Chicago Bears’ head coaching job, although he did not get it. The Bears have requested an interview with quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork for their offensive coordinator position new new head coach Ben Johnson. Meanwhile, offensive line coach Klayton Adams “is a name to watch” for the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive coordinator job.
