Cardinals offseason needs: Wide receiver

With a new general manager and coaching staff, the Arizona Cardinals have a lot of work to do with the roster coming off a 4-13 season.

Virtually every position group has some level of need to be addressed.

Over the next few days in this offseason series, we will take a look at each position group, what the offseason outlook is, what questions they have what what level of need is there — critical, urgent or secondary.

Two players are taken care of. Robbie Anderson (or Chosen Anderson now) has been released and A.J. Green announced his retirement.

This is who is left:

  • DeAndre Hopkins, signed through 2024
  • Rondale Moore, signed through 2024
  • Marquise Brown, signed through 2023
  • Andre Baccellia, exclusive rights free agent
  • Pharoh Cooper, unrestricted free agent
  • Greg Dortch, exclusive rights free agent
  • Antoine Wesley, restricted free agent

Questions and issues

Everything about this offseason seems to be centered on the future of DeAndre Hopkins. Will he be traded or not?

There are secondary questions like — will the Cardinals extend Hollywood Brown? What will Rondale Moore’s role be and can he stay healthy?

Dortch made plays whenever he was given the opportunity and will be back, but will he have an expanded role in 2023?

Can Antoine Wesley come back from his injury?

Offseason need: Secondary to urgent

Here is where it gest tricky.

The need is fairly minimal if the Cardinals go into the season with Hopkins, Brown and Moore as their main trio. That’s a great trio.

Part of the problem last year was that the three players never played in a game together.

But if Hopkins is traded, the need is much more urgent. Brown proved he can produce like a No. 1 receiver. Moore flashed again when healthy. Dortch was productive, but you want to see three guys you know you can count on.
