Cardinals Manager Ejected After Heated Exchange With Umpire During Tied Rivalry Game

Cardinals manager Oli Marmol was ejected from St. Louis’s game on Saturday, but he didn’t leave the field without giving the umpire an earful.

After a questionable called strike on star third baseman Nolan Arenado from Cubs relief pitcher Daniel Palencia, Marmol voiced his displeasure with the call from home plate umpire Cory Blaser.

The incident occurred in the top of the sixth inning on the first pitch of Arenado’s at-bat. Blaser could be seen looking in the direction of the Cardinals dugout before quickly ejecting Marmol, who proceeded to get face-to-face with Blaser and another umpire for the better part of a minute.

After an energetic and irate Marmol got everything off his chest, he turned and headed back to the clubhouse.

Palencia threw a wild pitch on his first pitch after the brief delay, allowing Lars Nootbar to score from third. Arenado proceeded to ground out to end the inning, and the Cardinals squandered their lead in the bottom half of the inning.

This marks the fourth time this season Marmol has been ejected, with his last incident coming back in May.
