With Kyler Murray continuing to ramp up for a return to action, the Cardinals announced an intriguing update on Friday regarding the star quarterback’s status for Week 9.
Murray, who tore his ACL last December, will travel with Arizona, which has yet to name a Week 9 starter, for Sunday’s road game against the Browns after being listed as questionable for the first time this season.
Friday’s decision comes amid uncertainty surrounding the club’s starting QB after dealing veteran Joshua Dobbs, who started all eight games, to the Vikings on Tuesday. Dobbs’s departure opened the door for either rookie Clayton Tune or Murray to start versus Cleveland, and recently-signed practice squad QB Jeff Driskel to be elevated for gameday, if needed.

While the designation is a positive sign for Murray, it remains to be seen whether the 26-year-old will ultimately make his season debut despite returning to full practice status just two weeks after being activated off the physically unable to perform list.
On Friday, Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon declined to confirm whether the team would elevate Murray to the 53-man roster for Week 9 by Saturday night, though he did note he’s “ready” to play.
“He’s told me he is ready—and I’m not even going to tell you when he told me he is ready—but he knows he needs to do certain things and keep stacking good days and keep getting reps and playing the position to be ready to play,” Gannon said, per ESPN.
