Cardinals’ draft pick from Texans drops to No. 25 or lower after playoff win

The Arizona Cardinals have the Houston Texans’ first-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Once expected to be a top-five pick, that selection keeps moving down.

The Texans beat the Cleveland Browns 45-14 in the opening round of the playoffs on Saturday at home, moving them to the divisional round.

With the win, that pick will be no higher than the 25th in the first round.

Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud threw three touchdown passes in his playoff debut.

Houston, projected to be one of the worst teams in the league entering this season, they finished the regular season 10-7 and won the AFC South in the final week of the season, earning them a home playoff game.

They blew out the Browns.

Had the Texans lost the playoff game, their pick would have been between the 19th and 21st.

The order of the NFL draft for teams who make the postseason is determined by the round in which teams lose and their record. Teams that lose in the divisional round next weekend will have between the 25th and 28th picks, in reverse order of their regular-season record.

The Cardinals have the fourth pick in the draft in addition to Houston’s selection in the 2024 NFL draft.
