The Arizona Cardinals have at least one coach on the staff who is heading to another team. We know that offensive quality control coach Jim Dray, who held that position for the last two seasons, is taking a promotion to be tight ends coach for the Chicago Bears.
Defensive line coach Brenston Buckner could also be on the way out.
According to Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson, Buckner is under consideration to be defensive line coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
What this means is that Buckner’s contract with the Cardinals is likely expiring. The Jaguars would have to have asked permission to consider him, which might have happened, but with reports that Buckner has also drawn interest from college programs like Auburn and Clemson,
Heading to the Jaguars makes some sense. Mike Caldwell is going to be their defensive coordinator. Caldwell and Buckner were both position coaches together for the Cardinals under head coach Bruce Arians. Caldwell and Buckner were teammates in 2003 with the Carolina Panthers.
If he does leave, it would mean a changeup on the defensive staff.
It is something to pay attention to over the next several days.
