Cardiff is set to get its own Temple Bar pub next month. Promising to "bring true Irish tradition to the streets of Cardiff'", Temple Bar Cardiff will be officially open on February 2.
The new pub will open on High Street, replacing Old Havana, and will feature live music every day as well as live sports, with a "vast amount of TV screens" throughout the venue. The bar plans to open just before the Six Nations kick off.
Behind the operations of Temple Bar are Steve Lewis and Nick Taplin, the faces of Breaking Brands - the same bar brand behind Coyote Ugly, which opened in Cardiff in 2016. Steve said: "This bar is one of our most exciting openings to date, Temple Bar will bring true Irish Tradition to the streets of Cardiff.”
Temple Bar will hold a 2am license with live music expected to continue until the late hours of the night. It promises to be home to over 70 whiskeys, as well as a "classic Irish menu, daily live sports and proper good craic".
The original Temple Bar is a legendary venue in Dublin, established back in 1840. The historic pub hosts live traditional Irish music from opening until closing time and has won Irish Music Pub of the year every year from 2002 to 2017. Temple Bar Cardiff is not run by the same operators as the original Temple Bar in Dublin, but takes its inspiration from the iconic pub.
