Cardiff City transfer news as youngster to leave club and stance on Rangers kid and striker revealed

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Friday, May 13.

Bowen to sign for Newport

Cardiff City youngster Sam Bowen will sign for Newport County on a free transfer.

The central midfielder, 21, broke through into Mick McCarthy's first team at the beginning of the season and produced some bright outings. McCarthy even said Bowen was "different class" in the club's Carabao Cup defeat against Brighton at the beginning of the campaign

However, some inconsistent performances followed, as well as an injury to his plantar fascia. The foot issue really set him back and by the time he had recovered Steve Morison had been put in charge and the landscape had changed somewhat.

Morison brought back Ryan Wintle from his loan and signed Tommy Doyle on loan from Manchester City. The manager also made clear his thoughts on young Eli King, who also usurped Bowen, who is the son of former Bluebirds player Jason, in the midfield pecking order.

Bowen's departure brings to an end his 15-year stay at the club, having joined the Bluebirds aged six. He will link up with his former coach at Cardiff, James Rowberry, at League Two Newport this summer, where he will hope to kick on his career.

Stance on Rangers kid

Contrary to recent reports, WalesOnline understands Cardiff City are not interested in signing Rangers youngster Kyle McClelland.

Reports have linked the Bluebirds, West Ham, Huddersfield Town, Sheffield United and even Hibernian with a move for the centre-back. However, Cardiff sources have rubbished reports linking the club with the 20-year-old Northern Ireland youth international.

Morison will need defenders this summer, make no mistake about that, with Aden Flint, Ciaron Brown and Sean Morrison all currently heading out of contract.

However, it won't be McClelland, according to sources at the club, despite the player on Thursday evening appearing to confirm his exit from Ibrox.

"Thank you Rangers FC! It's been a pleasure," he wrote on Twitter. "Thank you to all the staff fans team mates yous [sic] have been a credit to the club! Thank you and all the best."

Meanwhile, TNS star Declan McMannus is also not on the club's radar, despite reports linking him with the Bluebirds. Cardiff are not interested in any players from the Cymru Premier at this stage, we are told.

Kieron Evans' situation explained

Cardiff City do not intend to sell Kieron Evans this summer, however they do hope to secure another loan spell for him.

Rumours began to circulate on social media that the 20-year-old winger was going to be let go by the Bluebirds, however sources at the club have intimated to WalesOnline that is not the case.

The Wales youth international, who spent the back half of last season on loan with Belfast-based club Linfield, broke through into the first team at Cardiff at the beginning of this year, but it became apparent he needed more senior football under his belt if he was to become a regular with City.

And that appears to be the consensus this time around. Evans recently went down to National League side Torquay for a day's training ahead of agreeing a potential loan move, however nothing has come of that just yet.

When retained list is expected

Cardiff City must notify the EFL by the third Saturday of May, which is May 21.

Given that is just eight days away and there are still a few loose ends to tie up, it is unlikely we will be seeing anything resembling a retained list until next week and quite probably the back end of next week at that.

Cardiff are currently working hard on bringing bodies into the building, given they might need to replace as many as 21 players, and the next week or two could prove to be very active on that front, too. It's all bubbling away quite fervently behind the scenes as we prepare for the summer business to start in earnest.

However, the out-of-contract players' situations must first be resolved. There are 10 players in total who see their deals end next month, with Alex Smithies and Marlon Pack having already confirmed their exits.

Morrison, Joe Ralls, Flint, Brown, Will Vaulks, Josh Murphy, Isaac Vassell and Leandro Bacuna are the others whose deals expire at the end of June.
