Cardiff City transfer news as striker to link up with fellow Bluebird on loan and big Mahlon Romeo injury blow revealed

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Thursday, January 5.

James Crole to head to Torquay

James Crole is set to link up with fellow Cardiff academy product Kieron Evans at Torquay United.

The young Bluebirds striker, 18, has stood out at under-21 level over the last year, with many wanting him to step up and play senior football, if not at Cardiff then elsewhere.

That has now happened, with the club sanctioning a move for the player to head out on loan this month in the National League.

Kieron Evans has enjoyed half a season there and is understood to be impressing down at Plainmoor. Cardiff will be hoping Crole will have a similar impact there.

Mahlon Romeo out for up to six weeks

Mahlon Romeo could be out for up to six weeks with a hamstring injury, Mark Hudson has confirmed.

Romeo has been one of the standout players in this Bluebirds team this season and has been a nailed-on starter at right back when fit enough to play.

However, it looks like City will have to cope without him for the next month or so owing an injury he sustained in the 0-0 draw away to Coventry City.

"Mahlon has had a scan on his hamstring and it's come back that it could be four to six weeks. So that's disappointing, for him and for us," Hudson said.

"The high-level workload, working hard up and down. He has felt it on a recovery run up at Coventry. He has not had a hamstring injury before so he isn’t quite aware of what it would feel like. So it's a new one for him. We thought it would be better than it was, but they had to wait for the swelling and the bleeding to come down."

Sean Morrison bids goodbye to fans

Sean Morrison has issued a heartfelt farewell to Cardiff City fans after his exit after eight-and-a-half years was announced.

After six years captaining the club, Morrison leaves with almost 300 games and a promotion under his belt and will depart a legend.

In a touching statement, he wrote on the club website: "No amount of words will be ever be enough to tell you what this club means and will always mean to me.

"The last eight and a half years have been filled with some of the most incredible moments and memories. To every staff member and player I’ve ever had the joy of working with, thank you.

"You’ve made me a better person and I’ve treasured every moment. To the most incredible fans, my biggest thank you is to you. You are the heartbeat of Cardiff City. I always gave 100% and I leave proud and honoured to have had the opportunity to play so many games for this wonderful club. Good luck for the future, Bluebirds."

Earnshaw backs Hudson to turn things around

Robert Earnshaw has backed his former team-mate Mark Hudson to turn things around at Cardiff and believes this weekend's FA Cup clash with Leeds United could prove the catalyst.

Speaking about the manager, who has now overseen seven winless games in a row, and their upcoming clash with Premier League side Leeds, ex-Bluebirds striker Earnshaw told the BBC: "The team is capable of much more. Hopefully this is just the sort of game to turn the season around.

"It's going to be a break from the league for Cardiff and this is just the sort of high-profile game that could really kick-start their season. I played with Mark Hudson and have done some of my coaches badges with him and I believe he can turn things around.

"This is not where he would want to be but he will be planning exactly what needs to be done. He's capable and so is the team of doing more."
