Pompey boss leaves door ajar for Whyte signing
Portsmouth manager John Mousinho has spoken highly of Cardiff winger Gavin Whyte, who is set to leave the club this summer.
Bluebirds boss Sabri Lamouchi stated Whyte, who played with Mousinho at Oxford United, will not be offered a new contract, meaning League One clubs have been put on high alert.

Clearly, Mousinho's Pompey is an easy link as the pair played together, and the Englishman did anything but swat aside the links with the player.
He told The News: "I think it's a natural link because I've played with Gavin and he's out of contract.
"He's certainly a player I know very well, an excellent player. He's probably not had the last couple of seasons that he would have liked to have had but he's a really excellent player. I think he would be an excellent addition to any squad.
"Obviously, at this stage, I think if you're talking about Gavin Whyte being a possibility then it's certainly not something that I would like to dismiss."
Indeed, when asked about his best position, Mousinho spoke as if he was very much a player on the club's radar.
"He's an old-school winger, he's got pace, he's got an ability to take players on and come up with quite a few assists," he added.
"When he first came over from Northern Ireland, that's what he was like. He was really raw, really hungry and provided a huge outlet for that Oxford side. We see him as a right-winger."
Landmark EFL deal struck
EFL clubs have unanimously voted to accept a new £935million deal with Sky Sports which will see more than 1,000 matches a season being broadcast, but keeps the Saturday blackout in place.
The five-year deal, made up of guaranteed payments of £895m and £40m in marketing rights, will begin in 2024-25 and run to the end of the 2028-29 season. It represents a 50 per cent increase on the league's current deal with Sky which expires at the end of next season.
Altogether 1,059 league, EFL Cup and EFL Trophy matches will be shown live either on a Sky main channel or via a Sky streaming platform, replacing the iFollow service for domestic viewers.
Streaming platform DAZN had been keen to acquire the rights to screen all EFL matches and bring an end to the Saturday blackout period between 2.45pm and 5.15pm.
The blackout stays in place in the Sky deal, but more matches are available to stream, with six games across the Championship, League One and League Two now set to kick off at 12.30pm each Saturday. The deal means 26 out of 36 matches will still kick off at Saturday 3pm - seven Championship matches plus 19 across Leagues One and Two.
It is understood that based on the EFL's distribution formula, Championship clubs will earn 46 per cent more in guaranteed broadcast income and clubs in Leagues One and Two will be 25 per cent better off.
The deal means 10 league matches will be shown live each weekend, including six in the 12.30pm Saturday slot. Every match in the EFL Cup will be shown live, plus every game in the EFL Trophy.
EFL chief executive Trevor Birch said: "This is a landmark broadcast deal for EFL clubs, establishing the league as a premium partner with a world-renowned broadcaster in Sky Sports. The EFL is an iconic sports property and one of the biggest and best attended leagues in European football.
"This increased investment and coverage from Sky Sports will showcase much more of our compelling match action to fans, while delivering record rights values as we seek to make our clubs sustainable at all levels."
Burnley boss Kompany: We definitely want to win this one
Vincent Kompany insists Burnley will not be taking their foot off the gas when it comes to Monday's game with Cardiff.
Burnley take on the Bluebirds in front of a sell-out crowd at home and the Clarets will be looking to reach the 101-point mark before lifting the Championship trophy at full-time. Cardiff meanwhile, want to end their own season on a high.
Kompany said: "From the two sides, we’re now all of a sudden the one who definitely want to win this game. For us, it’s an important game. It’s the final game of the season, in front of our home fans.
“The trophy lift on top of it. We’re wanting to make a good day out of it and make it a day to remember for all the fans.
“I think this game, we’ve got a couple of players that we definitely want to give a chance. I think it’s no secret that Barnsey (Ashley Barnes) will be an important figure for that game and some other players.
“We just want to be strong. In general we just want to win this game, it’s an important game for us and it can be a special day."
