Cardiff City transfer news as Mehmet Dalman reveals details of striker targets including 'long-term' recruit

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Monday, August 1.

Dalman details Cardiff striker targets

Cardiff City chairman Mehmet Dalman has revealed the club want one "long-term" permanent striker to come in as well as another more experienced forward player with experience of the league.

Dalman said on a podcast last week that Cardiff were in conversations with striker targets and hoped to "get them over the line soon". However the Bluebirds don't appear imminently close to signing a frontman as things stand.

Dalman has said the club has offers out there and their ideal scenario would be to sign one and loan one, however he caveated that by saying he would not promise two strikers would come through the door and added there were very few quality strikers available.

"As Steve Morison has said, we have a couple of offers out there. It's obvious that we need a couple of strikers," Dalman told the BBC.

"It's a little bit out of our hands. We have made our offers but we are waiting for reaction to those offers. But we are not panicking about it, although it is getting quite tight.

"I wouldn't be surprised if you saw a couple more additions. But I would had to promise that, because it really is out of our hands. And there aren't that many strikers available. We get recommendations, but you want the right ones."

When asked on whether the signings would be purchases or loans, Dalman, who said last week they could pay a fee for the right target in the coming, replied: "I'd like to think it will be a mixture and that's what we are looking at, at the moment. One we would like to bring in as a long-term recruitment and we would like to bring in someone on loan, preferably someone who has got the experience of the league and has the ability to find his way to the goal posts."

Bluebirds win High Court case

Cardiff City have won their High Court case against former director Michael Isaac.

It is the second of three big court battles the club faces this year, with Cardiff having settled with former owner Sam Hammam earlier this year. The Court of Arbitration for Sport verdict pertaining to the transfer fee of Emiliano Sala and Nantes is yet to be announced.

But on Friday, July 29, Justice Adam Johnson QC delivered the verdict which saw Isaac lose his case, in which he had claimed his stake in Cardiff City had been unfairly diluted.

Isaac had owned 3.97 percent of the club, but a "five to two" share offer, which was agreed by the board of directors in May 2018, slashed his stake to just 1.18 percent. Tan's ownership share rose from 94.2 percent to 98.3 percent.

Isaac believed Tan was the driving force behind the deal and alleged his shares were unfairly diluted due to a bitter dispute between them. Tan and the Cardiff City holding company denied the allegations, insisting the share offer, which was designed to convert debt into equity to get the club back on a better financial footing, was in the best interests of the club.

Justice Johnson stated that while Tan's behaviour was "unpleasant", he acted within his legal rights and as such Isaac was entitled to nothing.

The judge added: "He [Isaac] has plainly been bruised by his dealings with Mr Tan and feels that he has been badly treated. That sense of conviction in his position came across clearly in his evidence.

"Regrettably, in light of my findings as to Mr Tan's motivations, I have come to the conclusion that Mr Isaac's allegations of unfair prejudice are not made out."

Ex-Bluebirds coach helps England Women win Euros

Former Cardiff City academy coach Geraint Twose is the Welshman who helped England Women win the Euros on Sunday night.

The Lionesses beat Germany 2-1 in extra-time thanks to a dramatic goal from Chloe Kelly, sending the 87,000 inside Wembley, and millions more at home, into bedlam.

But on Sarina Wiegman's coaching staff was Merthyr lad Twose, who cut his teeth in the Bluebirds academy. He spent 13 years at Cardiff City's academy, working as assistant academy manager between 2006 and 2013.

Twose also spent eight months as head coach of England men’s under-15s and has been with the women’s senior side for almost six years. He also supported Team GB in the Tokyo Olympics.

Sawyers: Kipre like a brother to me

Romaine Sawyers is one of two players to have joined from West Brom this summer, with centre-back Cedric Kipre having come in on loan, too. Familiarity is always a nice thing for any new signing and for Sawyers, having one of your best mates join the club you just did is a big bonus.

"It's been great to have him here!" Sawyers said of Kipre in Saturday's programme notes. "Cedric is like a brother to me, so it's been good to see him again. We were close at West Brom and even when I was on loan at Stoke, we would talk most days.

"When he told me that the club were interested, I was really happy and so to have him on board has been amazing. He's a big, powerful centre-back, but great on the ball at the same time."

Dean Ashton picks out Bluebirds trio

Former West Ham and England striker Dean Ashton has highlighted Ryan Wintle, Cedric Kipre and Jamilu Collins as the standouts for the Bluebirds in their win over Norwich.

Speaking on EFL's new highlights show on ITV4, former Canaries man Ashton said: "It's a root-and-branch change for Steve Morison, with the players he's now got, but they've done well in the market in terms of free transfers and loan signings.

"Today, it showed, when you've got that bit of freshness in your team it can make a difference. Sawyers, especially, with the goal. We know at this level he is more than competent. He is good on the ball and, yes, he's not known for his goalscoring, but O'Dowda with the assist, another player who has come in.

"Both teams were really poor going forward in the game. But there were some really good performances in the game. I thought Wintle was excellent in the way he handled Cantwell. But Kipre and Collins were absolutely brilliant and they showed that fighting spirit that Cardiff are going to need."
