Cardiff City transfer news as loan man returns and Coventry City boss claims Bluebirds were 'going down at every opportunity'

These are your Cardiff City headlines on Friday, December 30

Loan man heading back

Chanka Zimba will be heading back to Cardiff next month, with his loan stint with League Two side Newport County cut short.

Zimba had originally joined the Exiles on a season-long loan deal until June 2023, but that will now not play out in full.

Two other loan signings at Rodney Parade - Hayden Lindley and Thierry Nevers - will return to parent clubs Aston Villa and West Ham United respectively.

The trio won't feature against Leyton Orient this evening.

Twenty-one-year-old Zimba got 20 appearances under his belt with Newport.

Robins left frustrated

Coventry City boss Mark Robins was frustrated by his side's stalemate with Cardiff on Thursday night and claimed Bluebirds players went down too easily to disrupt the home side's momentum.

His opposite number, Mark Hudson, was left delighted with a point at the CBS Arena but Robins was in less generous mood towards Cardiff's approach to the fixture.

"I think it was clear that they set up to frustrate us and that’s been the story of their last few games," he said.

"They set up to take a point and they’ve done it which is really disappointing for us.

"We didn’t get any space or room and it was a really niggly game where they were going down at every opportunity to slow things down and the rhythm wasn’t there.

"If you can’t win then don’t lose, and we avoided that in a tricky game. We were trying to attack and score, and then you end up with gaps and they’ll exploit them. We didn’t have that killer touch.

"We almost scored with a couple of good chances, and a decent opportunity in the first half, but it was hard to find some space to break them down on a really difficult pitch. We had some good chances, some balls into the box, and decent moves. We were moving the ball but they were sat behind it, and it can become difficult."

Remembering Pele

Premier League and EFL teams will pay their respects to Brazil legend Pele at this weekend's fixtures.

The World Cup superstar passed away on Thursday aged 82 after a long illness.

Now top flight and English Football League clubs will wear black armbands and hold a minute's applause to honour the three-time World Cup winner.

Cardiff face Blackburn Rovers on New Year's Day.
