Cardiff City transfer news as Lamouchi open to more free signings and why Leeds United star snubbed Bluebirds

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Friday, February 10.

Drameh chose Luton due to 'manager'

Cardiff City being stuck in manager limbo helped Cody Drameh make the decision to sign a loan deal with Luton Town.

It is understood that Cardiff came in late with a bid to get Drameh, who is the club's reigning player of the season, back for the second half of the campaign.

However, the Hatters won the race and Drameh admits that the manager played a part in getting him to Kenilworth Road. At the time, the Bluebirds were without a boss, having sacked Mark Hudson.

He told Luton Today: “There was a lot of interest in me and for me it was just weighing up the best option.

“It was just game time for me and choosing the club by the manager, those two things were quite a lot here, so I just chose it by the game time and then Rob Edwards as well.

“I really want to play and the manager showed he really wanted me to come here, so that’s a nice feeling as a player, that’s what made me come here.”

Lamouchi on free agents

Cardiff are poised to sign Connor Wickham as a free agent, but boss Sabri Lamouchi has not categorically ruled out adding more fire power in the coming weeks.

Cardiff wanted to bolster their forward options and add a left back in the January window. They managed to recruit striker Sory Kaba and are closing in on a agreeing a deal for Connor Wickham, however the problematic left-back situation remains unchanged.

However, Lamouchi does not appear averse to bringing in a left back on a free. But he appreciates that is, at present out of his hands and he must focus on and work with the players currently at his disposal.

When asked whether he would potentially look at the free agent market to solve the left-back issue, Lamouchi replied; "Yes, but I'm not trying to look around, I need to find the solution. As you know, we play after tomorrow at home, after that, two days after, we travel to Birmingham. So three games in one week, I need to focus on the players in my locker rooms and not outside just to find the solution."

Cardiff 'in real trouble'

Cardiff are "in real trouble" and will lose 2-0 to Middlesbrough, according to former midfielder turned presenter David Prutton.

Former Nottingham Forest, Southampton and Leeds United man Prutton believes Boro are simply "too good" for Cardiff at the minute and believes the Bluebirds could risk slipping into the bottom three this weekend>

"Cardiff are in real trouble," Prutton wrote in his Sky Sports column. "Three defeats on the bounce, including two under new boss Sabri Lamouchi - who hasn’t been able to turn the tide in his first two games in charge. Defeat and they could end Saturday in the bottom three.

"And I think it will be defeat, because Middlesbrough are just too good right now. There is a big gap between themselves and Sheffield United, but all they can do is keep on winning and hope for the best."

Akpom in form of his life

Sabri Lamouchi has praised Middlesbrough as perhaps the best team in the league under Michael Carrick and reserved special mention for in-form striker Chuba Akpom ahead of Boro's visit this weekend.

The striker has 17 goals in all competitions this term, and three in his last two games, with Boro heading to south Wales with six wins in their last seven matches in the bag.

Their manager change from Chris Wilder to Carrick has been transformative, while Cardiff's run of results have been woeful.

They are yet to win under Lamouchi, suffering back-to-back 1-0 defeats against Luton Town and Hull City, but Lamouchi is branding tomorrow's clash the first of 16 cup finals.

"We are doing better and better, session after session, game after game," Lamouchi said of his squad.

"Against a different team this weekend, maybe the best one, I love the way they play. The manager, Michael, is doing a great job there. Akpom is having the best time of his career. They have very good players.

"But we play at home, an important game. This is the first of 16 finals. We must be ready."
