Cardiff City transfer news as fan favourite offers new signing words of advice and Jamilu Collins' return date revealed

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Wednesday, July 5.

Hoilett's words of advice for Ugbo

Ike Ugbo's Canada team-mate Junior Hoilett offered the Bluebirds' new signing some positive words of encouragement after learning he would sign for Cardiff.

Hoilett is thought of incredibly fondly in this corner of the world for the years of service he gave, including helping the club get into the Premier League.

And he plays in the national team with Ugbo, Cardiff's summer recruit on loan from Troyes, and learned he was moving to the Welsh capital before his deal got over the line. He has only good words to say about the place he called home for five years.

"Initially I didn't tell him I was coming here, but when he found out about it, he only had great words to say about the club," Ugbo said of Hoilett.

"He was just telling me how it is a great place for me to develop and he thinks it's a great place for me to be right now."

Ugbo is keen to replicate the success of Sory Kaba, Jordan Hugill and Uche Ikpeazu, all of whom are remembered well by City fans after their positive loan stints with the club in recent seasons.

"I've seen the strikers have done well here in previous years and I'm just aiming, hopefully, to do good for the club and for my career right now," he added.

"I have a lot of experience now. I played Championship when I was younger and now it's time for me to show what I've learned the last few years."

Speaking about the transfer, Erol Bulut said: "He can bring a lot of things, at least score more goals, I hope! He is a good striker. I was watching him against Nice when I was in France and Troyes was playing, I watched him live, he played the second half and I know him also as a name from there.

"But I think with him, the last two years, he didn't have a pre-season. So for him, it will be good for him to get a pre-season with us. He came and he's signed early, so he can adapt quick.

"But we need him in the box, to score goals."

Injury update

Erol Bulut has lifted the lid on Isaak Davies' absence and the expected return of Jamilu Collins.

Davies looked bright enough in City's pre-season opener against Penybont last Saturday, while Collins, of course, has been out for 10 months after suffering an ACL injury.

However, Davies' problem appears to be only small, and Collins might even be back in action for City as early as next week.

"Davies had a small problem on his adductor. That's why we didn't want to push him, in case he got a big injury," Erol Bulut said.

"Collins had a big injury, an ACL. So he has trained really hard to come back, so we have to take care with him. Also, he had stiffness on his hamstring, so we don't want to push him in case he got injured again.

"We are controlling the training sessions with him. But from next week, he will be 100 percent with us."

Transfer boost

Cardiff City transfer target Chidera Ejuke has had his CSKA Moscow contract suspended as he seeks a temporary move away from the Russian club in a major boost for the Bluebirds.

FIFA granted Ejuke, 25, a temporary contract freeze last year due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which allowed him to go to Hertha BSC for a season. WalesOnline reported last week the Bluebirds are interested in snapping him up on a similar deal this time around.

However, the red tape which appeared to be a potential stumbling block holding up the deal up looks to have lifted, according to Russian media outlet PFC-CSKA.

They report that Ejuke, and Arnor Sigurdsson who used the contract loophole to sign for Swedish Norrköping last season, have been granted permission to seek moves away again this term, with their contracts up at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

Joel Colwill doing 'really well'

Erol Bulut has spoken highly of Joel Colwill after his impressive 45 minutes against TNS on Tuesday night.

Colwill was the pick of the bunch for our money, winning fouls, being careful with how he used the ball and drawing defenders into a number of fouls in dangerous areas. He also set up a good chance for Andy Rinomhota, who skied the effort.

And Bulut is also suitably impressed, it seems. Although he urged patience due to Joel's tender years.

"He is doing really well. Also in the first game he did quite a good job in the midfield. Today he played a little bit different, like a No.10 and then we put him on the wing," Bulut said of Colwill Jr.

"He changed with his brother in the winger position. He is playing really good, I hope he can continue like this. He is 18 years old, so we will try to use him in different matches as much as possible, to get better conditioning.

"For him, it's very important to have many games. But he is still young, 18 years old."
