Cardiff City transfer news as defender talks to take place and youngster's comeback plan appears to be delayed

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Monday, December 12.

Morrison deal conversations to take place

Cardiff City have not yet discussed turning Sean Morrison's contract into something more permanent but Mark Hudson insisted that will happen in due course.

Morrison has come back and played twice for Cardiff's under-21s. He was set to play a third time last weekend but the game against Wolves was called off due to the weather.

Hudson wants to see the centre-back, who is back playing after suffering an ACL rupture in February, rack up those minutes with the under-21s in the coming weeks.

"He is another one who needs to get to regular 90 minutes," Hudson said of Morrison. "He is training regularly. He is finding the games again, what it's like. It's been a long time for him, nine months, and he is progressing well.

"I would never rush or put pressure on players who have come back from such a long period of time. He has been excellent. Another player who, with all the players we had come in through the window, they knew of Sean, but now they know what he's about.

"It's about getting those minutes in, regularly doing that and then continuing his fitness and direction moving forward."

When asked directly if any conversations had taken place yet over Morrison's future, Hudson said: "No. That's something we will discuss. But he needs to focus on what he needs to achieve, minutes-wise, physically. They will happen in the future."

Isaak Davies return pushed back?

Cardiff under-21s' game against Wolves getting called off last Saturday might have a knock-on effect for Isaak Davies.

Hudson said the young forward had one more box to tick before he could be considered for first-team action, stating Davies had to play once more for the under-21s.

He was expected to play most of, if not all of, the Bluebirds' game against Wolves last weekend, however with that game getting postponed, Davies has now not completed his return-to-play protocols.

Whether that now means the Wales under-21 international must now play on Friday, against Sunderland in the Premier League Cup, to tick that final box, remains to be seen.

If so, then it is highly unlikely he will be in contention to play against Blackpool on Saturday, pushing his return to the first team back beyond Christmas.

Hudson 'won't accept' Cardiff taking foot off gas

ITV pundit Aaron McLean believes Mark Hudson's side showed good character to come back and earn a draw at Stoke, but believes the Bluebirds boss 'won't accept' the sloppiness which saw them relinquish the lead early on.

Cardiff went ahead through Ryan Wintle but then conceded two goals in the next 12 minutes to fall behind, before Callum Robinson netted the equaliser before the hour mark.

"Mark Hudson has now been permanently appointed. He will look at this game and he will learn a lot," the former Peterborough United and Hull City forward said on ITV's EFL highlights show.

"Going 1-0 up and then taking their foot off the gas. I don't think that's something that he will accept moving forward. But it's early stages and I think he still wants to put his stamp on things.

"But they showed real character to come back into things, get the equaliser and they could have potentially gone on and won the game. There are pleasing parts to it, but for both teams, trying to move away from the bottom of the division, they will be happy with the point."

Hudson: Rubin is still playing catch-up

Mark Hudson believes Rubin Colwill is still not firing on all cylinders after struggling for game-time this season owing to a number of injury issues.

It was touch and go as to whether Colwill would get the call-up for Wales' World Cup finals campaign in Qatar, given he had seen precious few minutes in a Cardiff shirt so far this season.

After coming back from the World Cup, both he and Mark Harris had to settle for spots on the bench. Harris had a telling impact after his introduction in the second half, while Colwill came on with just three minutes to go.

Assessing the duo's fitness, Hudson said: "Sparky came on. They have had a lot of travelling. it is a big experience for both of them to go through, but they are ready, willing.

"Rubin has obviously not had a lot of football. he was just back before he got selected for the World Cup, buzzing he got selected, but he is still playing catch-up because he's missed so much.

"Sparky (Harrris), you see his endeavour and work-rate, he looked so sharp down the right. You have got Isaak looking to come back. That's what you need, competition for places and it's down to me to pick the right team."

Robinson: It might be tough for fans to hear but this will take time

Callum Robinson believes this Cardiff City squad will eventually get up the table but urged patience from fans as the team tries to forge new connections after a whirlwind summer of transfers.

No fewer than 17 players were brought in during the latest window and it is perhaps unsurprising that the performances have been inconsistent.

Robinson, however, believes that, with time, this team can move up the table.

"Definitely," he said when asked if Cardiff could shoot up the ladder. "We have got enough ability.

"There are a lot of young lads and you've got to remember, I was the 17th signing. Seventeen players. That's unheard of. It's going to take a while for us all to gel.

"That's tough for fans to hear that, but it takes a while in any business, when there are 17 new people working together.

"The lads and myself have been working hard during the break and hopefully we can get that win next Saturday.

"I try to help the boys on and off the field. There is obviously Rallsy, Nels (Curtis Nelson), Cedric (Kipre) has played a lot of games, Romaine Sawyers has played at the top level. We all try to chip in and help."
