Cardiff City transfer news as defender linked and Burnley now in 'pole position' to buy Vincent Tan's club after tabling bid

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Friday, May 26.

Defender linked with Bluebirds

Cardiff City are among a number of clubs to be linked with out-of-contract Charlton Athletic defender Sean Clare.

The right-back, 26, will leave The Valley this summer after playing 40 times in League One for the London club. He has had a disjointed career, having turned out for Sheffield Wednesday, Bury, Accrington Stanley, Gillingham, Hearts, Oxford United and Burton Albion.

According to Football League World, Derby County, QPR and Cardiff have all registered an interest in the former Owls defender.

Sources at Cardiff, however, have played down the reports to WalesOnline today.

Burnley launch bid to buy Tan's club

Burnley are said to be in "pole position" to buy Vincent Tan's Belgian club KV Kortrijk, according to reports on the continent.

We have kept a close eye on things in Kortrijk in recent months, with local news outlets claiming Tan is keen to sell the Jupiler Pro League side and Burnley, Bournemouth, Newcastle United and an American investment group have all been credited with interest.

Well, Belgian outlet HLN report that Burnley have made a takeover bid of €15m (£13m) for KV Kortrijk.

American investment consortium the Kaminski Group have also offered the same amount, according to the news outlet, but talks are said to be progression in the "right direction" with the Premier League-bound Clarets.

The report adds that it could all be coming to a head by the end of next week, quite the large sale for Tan to juggle while he continues to look for a first-team manager for Cardiff City.

Due to the huge uncertainty enveloping Kortrijk, the club, like their Welsh counterparts, have been unable to appoint a new manager after it was announced Bernd Storck would leave at the end of last season.

KVK chairman Ronny Verhelst and general manager Matthias Leterme left the club last month, citing friction with the owner. The report adds that Burnley, should they take over, want Leterme to reconsider staying.

Berhalter on Swans' radar

Former US Men's National Team head coach Gregg Berhalter is in the frame to take over at Swansea City.

This comes after WalesOnline learned that Berhalter was one potential candidate that Cardiff were looking at to take over following the dismissal of Sabri Lamouchi.

We reported that the club were looking at candidates in Europe and across the Atlantic and it is our understanding that Berhalter was a potential candidate.

However, in recent days, that seems to have cooled and it looks as though City's south Wales rivals Swansea have stepped up their interest in the 49-year-old, which you can read more about here.
