Cardiff City transfer news as Aston Villa's stance on loan man's future revealed amid bulging target list

These are the latest Cardiff City stories making headlines on Wednesday, June 7.

Villa's stance on Philogene

Aston Villa are aiming high this summer in the transfer market, with a whole host of names on Unai Emery's target list.

Free agent Youri Tielemans, out of contract at Leicester City, is high on their agenda this summer, with former Arsenal man Matteo Guendouzi also said to be of interest to them, according to our colleagues at BirminghamLive.

Villa secured qualification for the Europa Conference League with a seventh-placed finish last term and as such will be looking to add depth as well as quality to the squad - with all departments set to be upgraded. Sporting's Pedro Goncalves is also said to be on their radar, as well as £34m-rated Benfica man Florentino Luis.

What does this mean for former Cardiff loan man Jaden Philogene? This is what Villa correspondent John Townley said about his future: "The 21-year-old joined Cardiff on loan last summer and scored four goals in 37 Championship appearances. Emery wants to sign a winger and Philogene will be allowed to find a new club given the level of competition in forward areas. For sale."

Philogene was a real find for the Bluebirds last season and no doubt would be welcomed back to south Wales next term but Cardiff are unable to pay fees for players at present.

Until their partial embargo is lifted, they will have to rely on free and loan transfers.

Warnock 'set to stay with Terriers'

Former Cardiff boss Neil Warnock looks set to stay on as Huddersfield Town manager.

The veteran performed another great escape to keep the Terriers in the Championship last season having been parachuted in to maintain their second-tier status.

Having guided them to safety, Warnock said he was looking forward to slipping back into retirement.

"It'll be nice to sit with my daughters, have a meal, a glass of wine, not worry about substitutions...it'll be lovely," he said.

"I know they were chanting 'one more year' but wait till they're 74. I can't do this all year, I put everything into it. It's not a young man's life but I hate the motorways, I hate the hotels, I don't need it at my age. But I don't mind 10-12 weeks."

However, the Daily Mail now report he has been persuaded to stay on at the John Smith's Stadium and will lock horns with new Cardiff boss Erol Bulut next term. Warnock’s new contract could be as short as six months, according to the same article.

Flint would love Owls return

Aden Flint says he'd love a return to newly-promoted Sheffield Wednesday.

The central defender is now a free agent after his time with Stoke City came to an end and no new contract was offered.

Flint enjoyed a loan spell with the Owls from the Bluebirds and another this term, in which he played 21 times under Darren Moore.

“I’ve not thought too much about it,” Flint told The Star. “I’ve been fully committed to the cause here at Wednesday.

“I knew I’d been released from Stoke a few weeks ago which is fine, that’s football and I get it. But I was committed to Sheffield Wednesday and getting them over the line, getting it done. We’ve done it and that’s all that matters at the end of the day.

“I’ve not thought too much about myself. I’m going to have a bit of time away, I’ll speak to my agent and go from there.”

He added: “I’ve had success now at this club. It’s brilliant.

“It’s a great group of lads, great staff with a great manager. The fans are unbelievable. I’d love to come back, of course I would, but we’ll see what happens.”
