Cardiff City transfer headlines as Vincent Tan fully committed to January backing and fans spot Ryan Giles clue

These are your Cardiff City headlines on Monday, January 24.

Tan fully committed to Bluebirds

Cardiff owner Vincent Tan still fully committed to the Bluebirds and has offered backing to Steve Morison ahead of the close of the January transfer window, WalesOnline understands.

Tan's support for the manager has been unwavering, phoning him before and after each game and despite his own business ventures experiencing difficult times amid continuing Covid-19 strife, he is still prepared to back Morison in this window.

Although money for permanent deals is unlikely, financial assistance for loan payments and wages is said to be available.

Two loan deals have already been sealed in the shapes of Tommy Doyle from Manchester City and Cody Drameh from Leeds United, and it is understood Tan is prepared to sanction further moves to boost Cardiff's survival battle.

A full squad overhaul is likely this summer, with several first-team stars out of contract.

Eagle-eyed fans spot Giles clue

It wouldn't be the transfer window without some good old fashioned detective work.

The Bluebirds remain keen to bring Ryan Giles back to south Wales after his fruitful first half of the season in the Welsh capital.

Now back at parent club Wolves, Cardiff boss Steve Morison has made no secret of the fact he'd like Giles to return to Cardiff City Stadium before next Monday's 11pm deadline.

When quizzed on whether Wolves know of Cardiff's interest to take the wing-back on loan again this month, he replied: “Yeah, I haven’t left them alone! I text them once or twice a week to check what’s going on.

“That’s something I’ll try to do, if I get a phone call to say it’s an option. I’m sure there will be conversations taking part in the early part of the week.”

Supporters have been quick to spot an alteration to Giles' own Instagram post. His original farewell message read: "Thank you to the fans, players and staff at Cardiff City for your support and making me feel so welcome.

"Thoroughly enjoyed my time as a bluebird. All the best."

It has since changed to just a blue heart emoji. Make of it what you will....

Morison's Forest message

Morison has asked for a 90-minute performance when the Bluebirds return to action on Sunday against Nottingham Forest.

Cardiff began their match at Ashton Gate OK and took the lead through James Collins but fell apart almost immediately.

And when Forest visit south Wales at the weekend, Morison has demanded an improvement from his players

"We just have to try and continue doing the things that we were doing in the first 30 minutes, but do them for 90 minutes," he said.

"The players, individually, have got to take responsibility for moments in the game, and they've got to be better in those moments. Collectively, it wasn't good enough.

"It's something that needs to come from within, from them. The same thing seems to happen too often."

What to expect in the last week

A week is a long time in politics, so they say, but in football it passes in the blink of an eye.

Cardiff have one week left in which to sort their remaining transfer business out.

As mentioned above, Giles remains of big interest to Morison but judging by his comments after the defeat to Blackburn Rovers, another attacking player - possibly a striker - is surely on the agenda.

And as for outgoings, could we see Kieffer Moore prised away? And what of the 10 Bluebirds who are out of contract this summer?

We take an in-depth look at the situation here.
