Cardiff City suffer injury blow as striker ruled out for six weeks

Cardiff City striker Max Watters will be out for at least six weeks with an ankle injury, Steve Morison has confirmed.

The Bluebirds forward challenged Oliver Denham for a header in training last Thursday, but landed awkwardly on his left foot when coming down from the aerial collision.

Watters left the training ground on crutches and in a protective boot and while that was only deemed precautionary at the time, the knock is enough to keep him out for some time.

He was ruled out of the draw with Blackpool at the weekend and Morison has confirmed it will sideline him for a number of weeks.

"Max Watters is a minimum of six weeks," Morison said.

"It’s never nice to lose a player, it’s really unfortunate how it happened. It goes with the territory. He’ll be fine, hopefully.

"Six weeks is the minimum, so we will aim for six. Let’s hope he doesn’t need surgery or anything like that."

It came after Morison held clear-the-air talks with the player following his 37th-minute substitution against Coventry last week.

The manager said he, the player and sports performance coach Steve Sallis had a "brilliant" chat with the player and was looking forward to his response.

We will have to wait to see that now, though.

Elsewhere, there is positive news regarding Joe Ralls.

Ralls missed the game at the weekend owing to a "knock", but Morison confirmed the midfielder is back in training and in contention for the midweek clash with Huddersfield Town.

Curtis Nelson is still missing, while Isaac Vassell and Sean Morison are out for the season.

Cardiff take on Huddersfield Town at the John Smith's Stadium at 7.45pm on Wednesday.
