Cardiff City player ratings as super sub strong again but attacking stars endure frustrating day in Preston draw

Cardiff City missed the opportunity to record a third consecutive win with their 0-0 draw against Preston North End.

Here's how the Bluebirds rated:

Alex Smithies 7

Not his busiest afternoon, but produced a couple of great saves to keep Preston at bay in the second half.

Cody Drameh 7

Showed some really nice touches and made some decent defensive contributions. Pace on the counter is such a potent weapon too. Only Joe Ralls made as many tackles.

Perry Ng 7

Comfortable on the ball and played some nice passes into midfield. Also produced a couple of important blocks to keep Preston at bay, and made some crucial interceptions.

Aden Flint 7

Was on hand on several occasions to break up Preston's attacking efforts, and imposed himself well at the heart of the back three. A good day's work from the centre-back.

Mark McGuinness 7

Fed well off Flint to mop up when needed. Reasonably solid outing, but perhaps a little lucky not to give away a penalty.

Alfie Doughty 6

Ran his socks off on the left and played some decent balls into the box, but sadly the end product, like many others, was lacking. Subbed.

Tommy Doyle 6

Pressed brilliantly in midfield, and had all the right ideas in terms of how to split Preston's defence open. Sadly the execution was often lacking. Subbed.

Ryan Wintle 7

Mopped up brilliantly and kept things moving midfield. A calming presence in the middle of the park. Did the ugly stuff well in an ugly game.

Joe Ralls (c) 6

Threw himself about well. Got his foot in on several occasions, but wasn't able to really influence the game in the way he normally does. A frustrating day at the office.

Isaak Davies 6

Made some good runs at the Preston defence, but was pretty quiet for most of the afternoon. Subbed.

Jordan Hugill 6

Had the ball in the net at the end, but otherwise struggled to have an impact in the final third.

Subs :

Uche Ikpeazu (on for Davies '61) - Provided some much needed impact up front. Another solid outing. 7 - STAR MAN

Rubin Colwill (on for Doyle '61) - Some nice touches, and some neat link-up play with those around him. A decent cameo. 7

Joel Bagan (on for Doughty '81) N/A.
