Cardiff City player ratings as Jaden Philogene shines and Perry Ng enjoys unexpected role

Goals from Jaden Philogene and Sory Kaba led Cardiff to a thrilling 2-0 win against Bristol City on Saturday afternoon.

Here's how the Bluebirds rated:

Ryan Allsop 6

One of Cardiff's stand out performers for much of the game, putting his body on the line to deny Mehmeti and Weimann and getting hurt in the process. Unfortunate to pick up the red card but got himself in all sorts of trouble making it an easy decision for the referee.

Perry Ng 6

Another solid performance and one that ended in unexpected fashion. Read the ball confidently and did well to snuff out probing balls forward. Didn't put a foot wrong in goal either and he was met with cheers when called into action in the final minutes of the game. A memorable cameo.

Cedric Kipre 6

Was there when it mattered as he blocked Scott's effort off the line in the first half before causing Mehmeti to fire over with a brilliant last-ditch challenge where he put his body on the line. Made a few unconvincing clearances that put Cardiff under pressure but was an important player throughout.

Mark McGuinness 6 - Missed a good chance late on in the first half as he headed wide and was caught out at times but formed part of a solid Cardiff defence who will be delighted with a clean sheet.

Sheyi Ojo 8

Asked a lot of questions of the visitor's defence with his turn of pace and footwork. Nearly opened the scoring with a stinging shot that Bristol keeper O'Leary could only parry.

Romaine Sawyers 8

A player transformed. Played with heaps of confidence and delivered an assured performance which saw him win all of his battles. He's playing his best football in a Cardiff shirt under Lamouchi

Ryan Wintle 6

Helped open the scoring with a fantastic cross that earned him a well deserved assist. Calm under pressure and was good on the ball.

Joe Ralls 7

Filled in at left wing back and performed well out of position. Let a few chances go to waste early on and didn't always pick the right ball, but a strong performance from the captain who was rightly applauded by the home fans as he was taken off.

Jaden Philogene 9 (star man)

A phenomenal performance from the young man, whose speed and determination kept Cardiff in the game in the first half. Looked dangerous every time he got the ball and caused Bristol problems all afternoon.

Sory Kaba 8

Looked dangerous throughout but was frustrated for much of the first half as the Bristol defence tried to contain him. Took his chance well when it came to him with his powerful header lifting the side.

Connor Wickham 6

Made his presence felt early on, outmuscling the Bristol defence on more than one occasion and linking up well with Kaba and Ralls. Showed his class with a few lovely bits of skill but had a much quieter second half.

Subs

Andy Rinomhota (for Kaba 62) 6 Added to Cardiff's pace in attack and looked threatening

Kion Etete (for Wickham 86) 6 Entered proceedings late on but nearly grabbed Cardiff's third with a swinging shot.

Callum O'Dowda (for Ralls 67) 6 Met with a chorus of boos when he came on but had the last laugh

Rubin Colwill (for Ojo 86) - A solid cameo from the youngster
