Cardiff City player ratings as Aston Villa loanee changes the game and defensive pairing rock solid against Rotherham

Ryan Allsop 7

Barely had anything to do with his hands and was as cool as you like, as you'd expect, with his feet. Took one dangerous cross in the second half, which is about all he needed to do.

Tom Sang 7

Had a couple of frustrating moments early on but settled quickly. Rotherham didn't get a sniff down his flank and he grew in confidence throughout the first half. Subbed for Romeo and a tactical switch at the break.

Perry Ng 8

Great to see him back in the side after missing the last couple. Adds a positional nous and calmness in possession that settles the whole side. Very good at both ends.

Cedric Kipre 8

His physical presence in both boxes was known to the Millers players. Classy and cool on the ball and fierce in defence. Another top performance.

Niels Nkounkou 6

Made a couple of eye-catching runs and passes but also gave away possession with a poor header which set Rotherham on a dangerous counter. Hooked at half-time.

Ryan Wintle 6

A little quieter than normal. Has struggled to boss the game as much under Mark Hudson with a new style of play. Had one rasping effort deflected wide before smashing a gilt-edged chance over the bar late on.

Andy Rinomhota 7

His defensive work was certainly noted in this one. Didn't give the Rotherham midfielders a sniff. Was taken off for Sawyers as Cardiff chased a winner.

Joe Ralls 7

Slotted an excellent ball through to O'Dowda for an early chance and did the same for Harris late on before Wintle blazed over. Another decent performance.

Callum O'Dowda 7

Was involved in almost every one of Cardiff's positive moments in the first half. Keeps hold of the ball so well. Switched to wing-back after the break and did equally well.

Mark Harris 7

A bit of a livewire for Cardiff up top. Was central to their early chances and ran the channels well. Had one great chance saved when he should have squared to O'Dowda. Did excellently to fashion a late opportunity for Wintle. Ball just wouldn't fall for him to score.

Sheyi Ojo 6

A mixed outing. Skinned the odd player and got himself into some very good positions, but was offside for his early goal and might have done better to convert O'Dowda's cross in the first half. Can frustrate with his decision-making, but can also be very useful in open play.

Subs

Mahlon Romeo (Sang 45) 7 - His cross led to Philogene's goal. Was a threat for the Bluebirds after they changed to a wing-back system.

Jaden Philogene (Nkounkou 45) 8 (star man) - Looked really bright after his introduction, adding some quality and ingenuity to Cardiff's forward line. Took his goal excellently, putting the ball in the top corner after being found in a tight space.

Romaine Sawyers (Rinomhota 62) 7 - Just the sort of game he enjoys, when Cardiff are dominating and he has the room and time to dictate play.

Gavin Whyte (Ojo 88) N/A

Kione Etete (Harris 90) N/A
