Cardiff City news as Vincent Tan sacks another manager, Hudson confirmed and Sean Morrison plays first in Bluebirds win

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Monday, November 14.

Tan sacks another manager

Vincent Tan-owned Belgian club KV Kortrijk have announced the sacking of manager Adnan Custovic.

Kortrijk are 17th out of 18 teams in the Belgian top flight and are currently embroiled in a relegation battle. A situation Cardiff fans would concede they find themselves in.

All of Tan's clubs have seen some sort of turmoil this season, with Kortrijk, Cardiff and FK Sarajevo all having changed managers since the start of the campaign.

While Sarajevo are fifth in the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cardiff and Kortrijk are battling near the foot of their respective tables. Kortrijk had appointed Custovic only in July of this year and he had signed a deal up until 2024, with an option of a further year.

"KVK ends its collaboration with Adnan Custovic," Kortrijk wrote today. "This morning, KVK stopped the collaboration with head coach Adnan Custovic & assistant coach Gunter Van Handenhoven.

"KV Kortrijk is working on a successor as soon as possible."

Morrison starts for U21s against Birmingham City

Sean Morrison today made his first appearance in a Cardiff City shirt since being carried off the pitch against Barnsley back in February.

The former Bluebirds skipper, whose playing contract ran out at the end of last season, has continued his rehabilitation with the club and manager Mark Hudson confirmed he was hoping the defender would get minutes during the World Cup break.

WalesOnline learned Morrison was in line to feature against Birmingham City in an under-21s game today and that has indeed proved to be the case, with the club posting a photo of Morrison training with the Bluebirds squad prior to kick off.

Morrison was named at centre-back for the clash in the Midlands, partnering captain Xavier Benjamin and Curtis Nelson at the heart of defence.

The Bluebirds took the lead early at the ARMCO Arena, with Morgan Wigley slotting home after just 14 minutes to hand Darren Purse's side the advantage.

Tom Davies then fired in just minutes before full-time to ensure the Bluebirds came away with all three points and, of course, a clean sheet for Morrison upon his return. Not too shabby.

Hudson appointment confirmed

Cardiff City have officially confirmed the appointment of Mark Hudson as first-team boss.

Hudson himself said as much after the defeat by Sheffield United on Saturday, but the club have now announced the deal, which will take him up until the end of the current season.

Speaking to the club's website, Hudson said: “I’d like to take the opportunity of thanking Tan Sri Vincent and the Board for putting their faith in me and my backroom team. I’d also like to thank the City fans for their support, as passionate and committed as I always remembered them being during my time as a player.

“It’s an honour to be back here as Manager and I’ll be doing my utmost to take this Club forward, as I always have.”

O'Dowda: Nowhere near what we're capable of

Cardiff City winger Callum O'Dowda has branded the Bluebirds' recent home performances "nowhere near" the required standard after the latest defeat by Sheffield United.

The Bluebirds lost back-to-back home games against Hull City and the Blades as they head into the World Cup break, which leaves them in 19th place and one point off the relegation zone.

In an honest post on social media, O'Dowda said the Bluebirds are performance below what they are capable of.

"Deserved something from yesterday and frustrated we didn’t get any points from our last home games," he wrote on Instagram.

"Nowhere near what we’re capable of and the standards we’ve set, so it’s a good time to reflect and get back hungry to push up the table after the World Cup."

Striker Callum Robison waded in with: "Disappointing not to go into the break with a result. Important now we work hard over this period to make sure we come back fighting when we return."

Niels Nkounkou wrote: "We will work harder during the break to get the results we need."

Trust chair to attend football supporters' meeting

Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust chair Keith Morgan will attend an All Party Parliamentary Group for Football Supporters in London on Tuesday to discuss the Fans-Led Review of Football Governance.

A year ago, former Sports Minister Tracey Crouch MP published a review which proposed for an independent regulator for football and a far greater say for fans at their clubs. The review was set up in the wake of an attempt by some Premier League clubs to join a European Super League.

After the meeting, Mr Morgan will meet Welsh MPs Jo Stevens (Labour, Cardiff Central), Kevin Brennan (Labour, Cardiff West) and Alun Cairns (Conservative, Vale of Glamorgan) to discuss solutions moving forward.

Chartered accountant Keith Morgan said: “I’m pleased to have accepted an invitation from the Football Supporters Association (FSA) to attend the APPG meeting. It will look at bringing the proposals by Tracey Crouch into legislation.

“The Fans-led Review has already been widely welcomed by politicians of all parties and is likely to be introduced as a White Paper imminently by the UK Government.

“This is likely to lead to one of the biggest changes in corporate governance at football clubs in decades. While I’m in London I’m also taking the opportunity to hold discussions with our local MPs."
