Cardiff City news as Mark Hudson to appoint new coach and mixed injury update issued

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Monday, October 3.

Hudson given 'go ahead' to add to coaching staff

Mark Hudson has been given the green light to add to his coaching staff.

It is perhaps the biggest indicator yet that he will be given a decent run to try and earn the permanent manager's gig, with the club seemingly content to afford him a fair crack of the whip.

And, speaking on Monday, he said: "I am going to focus purely on game to game and I’ve told the team that. Long term is not something I’m looking at. Because the games are coming so thick and fast.

"I’ve been given the go ahead to go and bring another coach in and that needs to be right. As in the team, we are focused purely on Blackburn and then we will go to Wigan."

Big injury update

Rubin Colwill looks unlikely to feature for Cardiff in either of their games this week.

The playmaker slipped in training and is not training on the grass at present as the club wait for results to come back from the medical department.

"He was on the grass with us and he had a fall, literally had a slip, but we will give you an update when we get the timescale with that. But he was on the grass, it’s not going to be too long term," Hudson said.

"It's something we are going to have to manage to get him back on the grass. We will give you the update when we get the full update. It's not a big one, just to ease everyone's fears, but he's not on the grass."

In more positive news, Isaak Davies is out of his leg brace as he looks to step up his route back to full fitness.

"He is now out of his brace and moving forward, he has got to go through the processes he’s got," he added.

"He is a great kid. It’s a shame because I’d love to have him. I don’t want to put any pressure on him. That’s where he is at the moment."

On Kion Etete, the manager said: " Yeah he has missed a bit, unfortunately for him. He had quite a decent injury to the ankle. We are getting him on the grass and then he has to do something specific for him. He’ll be a good addition to the squad and he’s not too far away."

Ebou Adams, who still is yet to make his competitive debut for the club, still seems some way off, too. Hudson said: " It’s so frustrating doing that after coming into a new club. He is someone we will welcome with open arms when we can get him back. At the moment he is not there around the playing squad. He is building back up. He is still a good character around the building."

While Cedric Kipre looks likely to return to the fold on Tuesday night against Blackburn.

Under-21s down the Royals

Cardiff City under-21s beat Reading 2-1 thanks to goals from Tom Davies and Jack Leahy.

The Bluebirds took the lead through promising young left-back Davies, who converted a tidy cross from striker James Crole.

Leahy then doubled City's advantage when he buried the ball into the back of the net following Morgan Wigley's pass with 15 minutes still left to play.

But just four minutes later Adrian Akande made it a dicey last 10 minutes for Darren Purse's side, but they hung on to earn an important win in their Professional Development League 2 clash.

Next up is the mini South Wales derby against Swansea City on October 11.

Cardiff City Women swat aside Barry Town United

Cardiff City Women ran out comfortable winners in their 3-0 triumph over Barry Town United.

Phoebie Poole and Zoe Atkins struck goals for the Bluebirds before the first half was over, while Danielle Broadhurst hit a third to ensure Cardiff came away from Jenner Park with all three points.

Head coach Darbyshire said after the game on Sunday: “I’m delighted to get another win, another clean sheet and three goals. The way we’ve started the season has been unbelievable.

"We worked really hard in pre-season on a new way of playing and the players have shown a great attitude to adapt to it so well and they’re getting their rewards with the start we’ve had.”

Cardiff sit top of the Genero Adran Premier table, having won all four of their opening games, scoring 12 goals without conceding a single one.
