Cardiff City news as EFL latest on Rotherham farce revealed, Colwill reaction speaks volumes and Bluebirds win first title in 10 years

These are your Cardiff City headlines on Monday, March 27.

Bluebirds and Millers remain in limbo

Cardiff City and Rotherham United are still awaiting a decision from the EFL regarding their recently abandoned Championship clash at the New York Stadium.

The Bluebirds were winning 1-0 before last week's game was called off due to a freak downpour that rendered the pitch unplayable.

Cardiff were understood to be unhappy at the way Rotherham handled the episode, and compiled what they believe to be a dossier of evidence to put to EFL bosses.

It's understood that evidence has been received by the EFL, while Rotherham too have been afforded the opportunity to have their say on the matter.

A review is subsequently already under way, but there appears to be little sign of an imminent breakthrough.

It means both clubs remain in limbo over what happens next, with a decision unlikely to arrive in the next 24 hours, although an exact timeframe admittedly remains unclear.

Sources had previously suggested that the most likely outcome would be that the match would be rearranged and replayed in its entirety. While all possibilities remain on the table, that stance doesn't appear to have changed, although Cardiff are believed to have made the case for the contest to resume at 1-0.

A replayed game would clearly have a potentially big knock-on effect for the Bluebirds, who are facing up to a busy April schedule as it is.

The month is set to kick off with the small matter of the South Wales derby on Saturday. They follow that with Easter games against Blackpool (April 7) and Sunderland (April 10), followed by a trip to Sheffield United.

Then there's a midweek game away to Watford and then a home clash with Stoke on April 22.

The most likely window for a rearrangement therefore seems to be within the four days before Cardiff's penultimate home clash with Huddersfield.

Colwill bags two assists

Rubin Colwill grabbed two assists as Wales Under-21s beat Scotland 3-0 on Sunday.

Goals from Josh Farrell, Joe Low and Josh Thomas gave Matty Jones' side all three points in convincing fashion, with Colwill laying on a brace of assists.

It was a positive reaction from the Cardiff youngster after he was dropped down to the age-grade ranks, something which will please Jones after his words last week predicting he would knuckle down in the face of adversity.

"It's refreshing how he's accepted it [going to the under-21s]," Jones said before the game. "There has been a lot of work in the background over the last couple of weeks in terms of communication with the club, conversations with Rubin, myself and Pagey, and how we're going to manage it.

"If Rubin had any type of ego, he would have pushed back on it because certain players don't want that. They all want to stretch themselves. But we see it as support to Rubin in terms of giving him an opportunity to play 90 minutes of football at an international level, which is a great level for him."

"I know it's difficult when compared to the experiences he had at the Euros and the World Cup," he added. "Let's face facts, he's been through a difficult time at Cardiff, and I think we've got to wrap an arm round him.

"Certainly I will be giving him tough love. I spoke to him over the last week about giving him accountability and what he needs to bring to us and what he feels he needs to deliver. What his objectives are coming in on camp.

"Hopefully, my pressure and expectation on him is that he has to be the best player on the pitch. Those are the questions that will be asked of him. Also I think the players around him are going to look at every reaction. Every behaviour. Every move he makes. The lads are going to see that."

Cardiff crowned champions

Cardiff City secured the Genero Adran Premier title for the first time in 10 years with a 3-1 win over The New Saints on Sunday afternoon.

It was Ffion Price who got the first goal of the game in stunning fashion before Lia Lewis levelled for TNS. But a brace from Siobhan Walsh - one a penalty - saw the Bluebirds crowned champions.

Second-placed Swansea beat Cardiff Met Women 3-0 but with two matches to go, Ceri Phillips' side sit seven points behind Cardiff City Women.

Bluebirds boss Iain Darbyshire said: "It is everything we have worked towards in the last two years. We have put a lot in place and built a successful group, but we have had to improve week in, week out. I am just so proud of the players, staff and the people behind the scenes. I just think as a club we are in such a fantastic place across our three teams."

In an added bonus, the Bluebirds will lift the trophy following their final home league game of the season against rivals Swansea City.
