Cardiff City news as duo a doubt for Rotherham clash, Isaak Davies timeframe given and Hudson pleased with Tanner progress

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Thursday, October 27.

Isaak Davies unlikely to be back before World Cup

Welsh youngster Isaak Davies is unlikely to play for Cardiff before they break up for the World Cup next month.

The Bluebirds have five games until the mid-season break, all tightly packed within the next fortnight, and while Cardiff were boosted by Davies' return to the training ground this week, he looks unlikely to feature until December at the earliest.

"That was his first [session] in and around the boys. He has got the processes and protocols to tick off," Hudson said of Davies, who has not played a minute this season after suffering a knee injury in the summer.

"He has testing today, which is done away from the training ground, and then there is lots of little bits he needs to make sure he is on the grass regularly. It was great to see him back on the train.

"I'm not quite sure whether he is going to have enough time to put in and be on the grass for the amount of time needed for him to have an impact on the games. But it's great he is on the grass and building up, which is what we asked for."

Perry Ng and Mahlon Romeo doubts for Millers clash

Perry Ng and Mahlon Romeo are both tracking on the same return-to-play timescale, however they remain doubts for the home clash with Rotherham on Saturday afternoon.

Ng went off against QPR last week and missed the South Wales derby clash with Swansea City, while Romeo has now missed the last four games after coming off with an injury in the win over Blackburn Rovers at the start of the month.

While neither player appears to be too far away, they are both injury concerns ahead of the weekend.

"Perry has been on the grass this morning. He started with the group and then broke off to do some individualised bits. That's looking positive. But it's something we will have to leave until maybe tomorrow.

"Mahlon was out doing the same."

Tanner plan revealed

Ollie Tanner's performance in the 4-1 thrashing of Colchester United's under-21s side on Tuesday was certainly one of the highlights for Mark Hudson and Co.

Tanner, 20, played 90 minutes for the first time in a Cardiff City shirt and turned out an encouraging performance, which was topped off by curling in a lovely effort from the edge of the area to round off a successful day.

"Ollie Tanner got 90 minutes for the first time, which is excellent. We have been getting him towards that," Hudson said of Tanner.

"He has been outside a professional environment for a long time. To step up and train at the highest level is very difficult. Then to play certain minutes and re-apply yourself to go and train two days later. We knew that. It's been a process.

"He got injured, which is part and parcel of the constant load. We knew where we were building him up to, he is aware of it, he has an individualised programme for him, which is excellent. He has played 90, is back on the grass again today, for the first time after doing that. That shows he is getting towards it."

Rotherham boss: Cardiff are a 'really big club with pace and power'

Rotherham manager Matt Taylor expects a tough test when he faces the Bluebirds at the weekend, branding the Welsh side "a really big club" with "a lot of pace and power" in their ranks.

It's easy for fans to go into the game with a negative outlook owing to suffering three defeats on the bounce, however the view from the opposition dugout perhaps paints a fairer picture of how the opposition view the encounter.

“They are traditionally a really big club and have a lot of pace and power within their team," Taylor said of Cardiff.

“It has been difficult to really assess them because in the two games I’ve been to watch recently, they’ve gone down to 10 men really early.

“There’s no saying that won’t happen again this weekend, but that is a difference in a game that makes it harder to identify certain aspects of their play.

“They look strong in certain areas of the pitch, as always when we go away home, we have to be strong in certain moments and pack a punch ourselves."
