Cardiff City news as crunch Bluebirds meeting set to take place and next season's fixtures become clearer

Here's your round-up of all the latest Cardiff City news for Sunday, May 7.

Tan poised for crunch talks with Lamouchi

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan is set to conduct formal talks with Sabri Lamouchi over the coming days.

It's understood the Malaysian will sit down the the Cardiff boss after Monday's curtain call with champions Burnley, with there seemingly being plenty of appetite to strike up an agreement that would keep the Frenchman in the Cardiff hot seat.

Lamouchi is also understood to have already identified potential free transfers for the club to target this summer, with the Cardiff boss ready to tap into his contacts on the continent to get the quality he feels is needed to improve the squad ahead of next season.

There might well have to be concessions on what is possible, mind. Indeed, the calibre of player Lamouchi will be targeting might well exceed the current wage structure in place, with the club still looking to lower running costs in the face of financial challenges.

Championship line-up nearly complete

Cardiff City will face Ipswich Town and Plymouth Argyle next season, with just one spot in next season's Championship left up for grabs.

Wigan Athletic, Blackpool and Reading have all dropped down to League One, meaning the line-up for next season is now just one team away from being complete.

Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley, Bolton Wanderers and Peterborough United are all set to contest the play-offs, which will start on May 12.

The League One play-off final will take place on Monday, May 29, at Wembley.

And with the likes of Southampton, Everton, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest potentially in the second tier next season, it could be a tasty - if not arduous - division.

Burnley receive Kompany boost ahead of Cardiff clash

Vincent Kompany has seemingly put an end to speculation over his Burnley future by signing a new five-year deal at the club.

After sealing the Championship title with the Clarets, the Belgian has been linked with several jobs elsewhere, but has seemingly committed his future to the Lancashire side.

After agreeing a deal until at least 2028, Kompany said: “Burnley and Turf Moor felt right pretty much from the start - so it also feels right to sign for the next five years.

“Together with the fans we have made Turf Moor a fortress again and continue to look forward to the future and the job of making Burnley better with every step.”
