Cardiff City news as Bluebirds left sweating on duo, star barred from West Brom tie and debut celebrated around the world

Here's your round-up of all the latest Cardiff City news for Monday, March 13.

Cardiff sweating on duo ahead of Baggies test

Cardiff City are facing an anxious wait on senior duo Connor Wickham and Joe Ralls ahead of Wednesday night's clash with West Bromwich Albion.

The pair were ruled out of the recent defeat to Preston North End on Saturday, with Cardiff boss confirming they had both picked up problems in training during the week.

On the duo, Lamouchi said: "They were injured for the game. We need absolutely everybody and unfortunately for the last session, Joe and Connor felt something so they couldn't travel with us."

It remains to be seen whether either player will be in contention for the game at the Cardiff City Stadium, although one man definitely ruled out is defender Cedric Kipre due to the terms of his loan from the Baggies.

"We play West Brom [on Wednesday] and they are in good form," the boss added. "Cedric will not play the next game, so Joe Ralls and Connor Wickham, who weren't with us today, that's why. We need to be absolutely ready for the next game."

Luthra inclusion 'magnificent news'

Rohan Luthra's first senior appearance for Cardiff has been described as "magnificent news" by campaigners.

The 20-year-old England youth international was given a cameo from the bench in the defeat to Preston following Jak Alnwick's red card, and became the first goalkeeper from a British South Asian background to ever play in the Championship.

"This is another piece of magnificent news for British South Asians in football in 2023," Jas Batt, England technical talent coach, told Sky Sports News.

"They will be celebrating this one from Wales to west London and all the way to the Wagah border, and beyond!

"Rohan is someone everyone from a South Asian background can be proud of. He's a multi-talented sportsman from a very good family, who has been an elite-potential talent for a long time.

"I'm sure I can speak on behalf of everybody across the community when I say that we are all very proud of him."

A spokesperson for official Three Lions supporters' club Apna England added: "This is a moment for both the football family and the wider South Asian community, in England and beyond, to rejoice.

"Everyone is desperate to see better representation across the 'beautiful game' and Rohan making history will give a lot of people from different backgrounds plenty of hope for the future.

"Rohan has represented his country with distinction at junior level and as an official England fans' group we'd like to offer our support and heartiest congratulations to Rohan, his family and everyone associated with Cardiff City Football Club."

Corberan demands more from Baggies

Carlos Corberan was full of praise for the mentality his West Brom side following their 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town at the weekend, but insists there's still plenty of room for improvement ahead of their trip to the Welsh capital.

A John Swift penalty was enough to seal all three points for Albion and move them to within three points of the play-off places ahead of their midweek clash with the Bluebirds, but the Baggies boss clearly believes there are areas to work on.

He said: “We needed to compete well and we did that, without performing as well as we can. We are going to keep working to play better in games and become more dominant.

“Expectation never really helps. What helps is staying focused on the job you have to do which is what the players have done over the last few days here at The Hawthorns. They had the right mentality to achieve the three points which were necessary today.”

Treble hopes dashed for Cardiff Women

Cardiff City Women saw their hopes of a domestic treble dashed as they were beaten 3-1 by city rivals Cardiff Met in the Adran Trophy final on Sunday.

In a repeat of last year's showpiece, the Archers again proved too strong at the SDM Glass Stadium in Bridgend.

A brace from Erin Murray handed Met a commanding 2-0 lead at half-time, before City skipper Siobhan Walsh hit back from the penalty spot.

However, the Bluebirds couldn't find an equaliser, with Met making sure of the win through Ellie Preece's strike.
