Cardiff City Ladies' FA Cup dreams over after comprehensive Lewes defeat

Cardiff City Ladies' FA Cup run was ended at the fifth round stage following a comprehensive defeat to Championship side Lewes.

Four goals from Ellie Mason, Kenzie Weir and Aqsa Mushtaq put the home side into the quarter-finals.

It was just 2-1 at half-time, though, with Ingrid Aadland getting Cardiff back in the tie before the turnaround. She scored with her family in attendance too, with them having flown over from Norway for the match.

However, Lewes' dominance showed in the second half, with Mason enjoying a fruitful afternoon in front of goal.

Cardiff were the only amateur team left in the competition and their very presence in the tournament at this stage was an achievement in itself.

After the game, the Cardiff City LFC account wrote on social media: "Outstanding effort from our Dragons today, the score line doesn’t reflect our performance."
