Cardiff City investigates after glass bottles allegedly thrown during Bristol City game

Cardiff City Football Club is investigating and police have taken action after glass bottles were allegedly thrown from the away end during the game against Bristol City on Saturday and ended up reportedly hitting some Bluebirds fans.

Cardiff fans shared footage of smashed glass bottles of beer strewn across the terraces in the Ninian Stand deep into the second half of the match which Cardiff won 2-0.

Fans reported how some Bristol City supporters allegedly threw the bottles in anger when fans in the Ninian Stand celebrated Cardiff’s second goal in the 70th minute. One fan told WalesOnline that there was “glass everywhere” after Jaden Philogene’s goal.

One boy also reportedly suffered a coin being thrown at his face which left a cut above his eye.

Footage seen by WalesOnline shows some Cardiff fans celebrating while facing the away end. A bottle of Coca-Cola is then clearly thrown into the Cardiff crowd and hits a supporter in the footage. Fans are then heard discussing their disbelief at what happened.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "South Wales Police will not tolerate the behaviour of a few ruining the day for real football fans. Officers took a robust stance on those individuals who were intent on acting in an anti-social manner with Section 35 notices given to 15 people."

Cardiff City is investigating and says the club is in contact with Bristol City and the club’s travelling stewards and safety team.

Avon and Somerset Police and Bristol City have also been contacted for comment.
