Here is your round-up of all the latest Cardiff City news for Wednesday, September 21.
Chesterfield set to take academy role
Cardiff City are set to appoint outgoing Barry Town United boss Gavin Chesterfield as the club's new head of academy.
Chesterfield is set to bring the curtain down on a hugely impressive 15-year stint Jenner Park and will take up his new role with the Bluebirds in November, having confirmed his intention to step down from the club earlier this month.
Cardiff have been on the search for a new head of academy since the departure of David Hughes back in July, and Chesterfield is understood to be relishing the chance to start what he hopes will be an exciting new chapter in his career.
The 42-year-old is a well-known figure in Welsh football for his incredible work at Cymru South side Barry, whom he took over back in August 2007, guiding the club to three promotions in four seasons, even qualifying for the Europa League along the way.
Barry were relegated from the Welsh top flight last season, but Chesterfield is still held in very high regard by the club and its supporters.
Chairman Mark Barrett said: “Whilst we are all devastated to lose Gavin, we accept this is an opportunity for him to work full-time in a significant player development role which he has dreamed of doing since he was himself released professionally in 2001.
“From the bottom of my heart, I thank Gavin personally for all he has done for the club and our town since 2007. We know that Barry Town will forever be his club and will always hold a very special place in his heart. He will never be a stranger at Jenner Park.
“Naturally, this will have an impact on the club hence why Gavin will serve his full notice period and stays with us for a few months whilst we make the transition both on and off the field.”
Manning linked with top job
Staying with potential appointments.
Liam Manning is reportedly a name admired by Cardiff as they continue to weigh up interim boss Mark Hudson's credentials as a long-term replacement for Steve Morison.
Morison was sacked on Sunday, following a run of three wins over the opening 10 games of the season, and attention has already turned to his successor.
WalesOnline understands Hudson, who previously worked as Morison's number two, will be given a chance to impress the hierarchy over the coming weeks, but Cardiff will explore other options in the meantime.
One of those is understood to be Sol Bamba, while reports elsewhere have suggested that Paul Ince and Jody Morris are also in the frame.
And, according to journalist Darren Witcoop, the club could well be looking towards the third tier for a possible replacement.
Taking to Twitter, he wrote: "No real update on Cardiff’s managerial search with Mark Hudson expected to be given a run of games as it stands. But there’s two managers in League One that the club rate highly. Understand that MK Dons’ Liam Manning is one of them."
Manning was Russell Martin's successor at MK Dons, and guided them to third last term.
Hudson still bookies' favourite
Despite recent reports, there has been little change in the bookies' favourites for the top job.
Mark Hudson remains at the top of the pile, followed by Nathan Jones and Sol Bamba.
