Cardiff City headlines as bookies link Gareth Bale with shock summer move and Lee Tomlin faces Wrexham decision

Here's your round-up of the latest Cardiff City headlines for Tuesday, February 15.

City, Villa and Fulham linked with Millwall starlet

Cardiff City have reportedly shown an interest in Millwall youngster Chinwike Okoli, but could face Premier League competition for his signature.

According to Allnigeriasoccer.com Aston Villa, Bournemouth, and Fulham, are also keeping tabs on the ball-playing centre-back, who has recently been training with the senior squad at The Den.

The Lions are believed to be intent on keeping the 18-year-old, and are reportedly weighing up offering him his first professional contract.

Negotiations on a deal have started but that hasn't stopped a number of clubs have seemingly taking an interest in the teenager.

Rowett claims Cardiff underestimated Lions star

Millwall boss Gary Rowett has suggested that Cardiff underestimated goalscorer Murray Wallace during City's 2-1 defeat at The Den.

Wallace was on hand to give the Lions the lead with a well-taken header on 73 minutes, and was also responsible for helping to keep Jordan Hugill and others at bay.

And Rowett believes that Cardiff perhaps underestimated the Scottish star.

“I think Cardiff thought put him on the little Scotsman and he [Hugill] will win every header," he said after the game.

“Little did they know that he’s probably in the gym 23 hours a day and as competitive as they come.

“It’s testament to the player’s character that whoever plays against him has a scrap. And he’ll show that composure, like we’ve seen, in front of goal and in general play.

“All three of our centre-backs were really competitive, and have been for the last few weeks.

“Muzza, with his goal, epitomises that.”

Tomlin awaiting Wrexham decision

Wrexham are yet to make a decision on whether to continue running the rule over Cardiff fans' favourite and former star star Lee Tomlin.

The 33-year-old was training with the Dragons last week, and is available on a free transfer having left the Bluebirds by mutual consent in October

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson says there is a decision to be made on whether to take another look at the mercurial forward, who would surely be a significant boost to the club's stuttering promotion bid.

"Lee is a player we have had in for a couple of days," Parkinson said at the weekend.

"Lee is a quality player and we are always looking to add quality to what we have got.

"We have got a good squad and if we are going to bring somebody in, it has got to be someone who can make a significant contribution.

"If that person is out there then we will look at it, if not we are happy with what we have got."

When asked whether Tomlin will continue training with the club this week, Parkinson added: "We are going to have a chat.

Bale linked as he leaves Real

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Gareth Bale will leave the club at the end of the season.

And where he goes next is the subject of frenzied speculation - with the bookies reckoning Cardiff is a possible destination.

Speaking about the Wales captain's current situation, Ancelotti said: "Bale has helped this club to win the Champions League, Copa del Rey and signing off on a high here would be good for his career."

Another return to Tottenham for Bale during the summer has already been mentioned by some outlets on the continent. Read more

Bookies have continued to suggest Cardiff City as a genuine option, although any Bale homecoming would be truly sensational and presumably player led.

A further suggestion is that Bale will quit club football entirely once his Real contract finishes.

However, if Wales reach the World Cup their skipper will want some game time behind him heading out to Qatar.

According to the bookies Spurs are 3-1 favourites to re-sign their former star, followed by Cardiff 6-1. Rangers and Newcastle are also being mentioned as possible destinations.
