Cardiff City back in for Uche Ikpeazu as Middlesbrough perform major transfer U-turn

Cardiff City are back in the running for Middlesbrough striker Uche Ikpeazu and are closing in on his signature, WalesOnline has learned.

The Bluebirds are keen to replace Kieffer Moore, who is set to be announced as a Bournemouth player on Monday evening.

Cardiff were in for Ikpeazu at the beginning of the transfer window, but Boro batted away the Bluebirds' advances, insisting they wanted the player to leave on a permanent basis.

However, in something of a shock U-turn, Boro have relented on their stance and have allowed the 26-year-old to leave on a temporary basis for the remainder of the season.

Ikpeazu is a player Steve Morison has liked for some time and is a forward who can bring the physicality void which is set to be vacated by Moore's departure.

Cardiff are confident they can get the deal over the line before the 11pm deadline.

Earlier on transfer deadline day, Cardiff were keen on signing Stoke City forward Sam Surridge, however Nottingham Forest hijacked that deal when they tabled an offer to sign the player permanently for around £2m.

The Bluebirds are also understood to have enquired about Nahki Wells, but Bristol City only wanted the player to leave permanently and Cardiff are solely in the loan market.

Ikpeazu impressed against Cardiff in both games for Wycombe Wanderers last term, but has found things a little tougher after moving to Boro.

The forward has scored three goals in 23 outings in all competitions this term.
