Cardiff City 5pm transfer news as West Brom's Callum Robinson spotted at stadium and Bluebirds 'blow rivals out of water'

Here are the latest Cardiff City transfer headlines at 5pm on the final day of the window.

Robinson spotted at CCS after undergoing medical

West Brom forward Callum Robinson appeared to be spotted by eagle-eyed fans at Cardiff City Stadium ahead of his expected unveiling as a Bluebirds player.

The Republic of Ireland international underwent a medical earlier this afternoon before heading off to the Bluebirds' home ground, likely for some promotional photos for the club's announcement, which is expected later this evening.

And one supporter took a video of what looked like the 27-year-old forward as he made his way through the doors at CCS.

Robinson will become the club's 17th signing of the summer, but only the second striker following the £500,000 arrival of Kion Etete from Tottenham Hotspur.

The fee for Robinson is believed to be worth £1.5m.

Preston boss: Robinson too expensive for us

Robinson was clearly wanted by a number of Championship clubs this summer, not least his former side Preston North End, where he is thought of fondly.

Lilywhites manager Ryan Lowe was today asked about Robinson and the Deepdale club's pursuit of the player, but in the end he said the player proved too costly.

"We obviously made an enquiry about Callum early doors after it was brought to our attention," Lowe told our sister title LancsLive . "He's already at a fantastic club in West Bromwich Albion and the kid fancied staying there to play some games I think.

"We were well out of the picture with that because again, wage demands, fee demands, it just wasn't doable. If it was a loan deal with some recoveries to be used, then we'd have probably had a look at it.

"But, when you get blown out of the water through no fault of your own - we have to stick to what we've got - people just prove to be a bit too expensive."

Luton boss: Cardiff have blown us out the water this summer

And North End are seemingly not the only club to have been 'blown out of the water' by Cardiff this summer. Luton Town boss Nathan Jones has revealed the Bluebirds outgunned them to a couple of signatures in recent months.

It's not the first time we've heard this from rival managers this summer, with Reading's Paul Ince and Birmingham City's John Eustace also citing Cardiff's financial clout when it comes to nabbing targets.

However, the Bluebirds have drastically cut their wage bill this summer and don't believe they have paid above the odds for any of their targets so far.

Speaking after the Hatters' win over the Bluebirds, Jones said: “To come away from home, score two goals at Cardiff City, a side that has been playing well, a side that has been spending money as well," he said after the win at the Cardiff City Stadium.

“As we’ve been in the market for players in the summer that they have completely, completely, blown us out of the water for. They’ve got a bit of money here as well, so we’re really pleased because we’ve shown we’re a good side.”

Cody Drameh to 'stay and fight' at Leeds United

Last year's Bluebirds Player of the Season Cody Drameh will stay and fight for his place at Leeds United despite a lack of game time, according to our colleagues at LeedsLive.

Drameh was sensational on loan last term but Steve Morison was resigned to the fact that there were bigger and better things waiting for the player this term and brought in Mahlon Romeo, who has been excellent, and Vontae Daley-Campbell.

It is understood that Leeds have received a number of loan enquiries from Championship clubs this summer, but they were all knocked back.

Now, it appears, Drameh has accepted his fate and will have to fight for his spot in Jesse Marsch's side. If not, Drameh will have no shortage of suitors in January.

State of play on outgoings

At time of writing, it is unlikely any Cardiff players will leave the building.

That, of course, can quickly change, as things always do on deadline day, but there doesn't appear to have been any serious enquiries for players so far today.

Morison himself said when asked by WalesOnline on Saturday that if a first-team player left then Cardiff would look to dip back in the market to replace the outgoing player.

The closer that clock ticks towards the deadline, the less likely it is that players will leave.
