Peter Whittingham's iconic No.7 shirt has been retired by Cardiff City, the club have announced.
The Bluebirds legend sadly passed away at the age of just 35 back in March 2020, an untimely passing which rocked the club and everyone associated with it.
Following the departure of Leandro Bacuna, the last person to wear the No.7 jersey, in the summer, Cardiff have taken the decision to retire the shirt as a mark of respect for a man who was adored by thousands in this corner of the world.
Whittingham most certainly did the shirt proud, scoring 96 goals and providing 93 assists in 457 games for the Bluebirds. The club have also committed to playing a memorial match for the bona fide Cardiff City legend later this year.
Elsewhere in the announcement, Cardiff have named Joe Ralls as their new club captain.
He assumes the role, having donned the arm band a number of times over the years, following the expiration of Sean Morrison's contract. Morrison, who has not been assigned a shirt number although the No.4 remains free, is currently rehabilitating with the club after surgery following his ACL rupture.
The other big movers see Sheyi Ojo claim the No.10 jersey, fellow new signing Callum O'Dowda take the No.11 and Ryan Allsop nab the No.1 after Dillon Phillips' loan move to Oostende.
Elsewhere, Romaine Sawyers takes his preferred No.19, a shirt he favours due to his love for another firm Bluebirds favourite Jason Koumas, whom he adored while at West Brom.
Mark McGuinness moves from No.2 to No.5, Ryan Wintle changes from No.15 to No.6, Tom Sang is the club's new number 12. while Ollie Denham switches from No.42 to No.15.
The final changes see Eli King move from No.32 to No.24 and Rohan Luthra switch from No.43 to No.28.
