Cardiff cause stir by buying huge advertising space in middle of Dragons territory

Cardiff Rugby have caused some controversy on social media after advertising their new kit on a billboard in the depths of Newport.

This comes as all the Welsh regional sides have revealed their new kits for the upcoming 2022/2023 campaign.

The billboard advertisement has appeared outside the Bryn Glas tunnels on the M4 in Newport, with Liam Williams and Toby Faletau pictured wearing the home and away strip.

Cardiff Rugby have posted a picture of it on Twitter, with the caption 'Croeso I Gymru' (Welcome to Wales), and this has drawn quite a bit of attention from fans.

"Love this! Top trolling from Cardiff in The ‘Port" said one.

Ospreys revealed their new home and away strip on Friday, and became the final Welsh region to display their new colours for the 22/23 season.

Scott Watson, head of sports marketing, Umbro UK, said: “We have taken great pride in developing these jerseys for Ospreys; a club that shares our values and love for the game. We are looking forward to seeing the kit on show across the 22/23 United Rugby Championship and European campaigns, and are incredibly excited to see the reaction to the kit from supporters at home and across the world.”

Scarlets also revealed their new home kit, alongside an impressive away strip which is lined in gold detailing. The Llanelli outfit host the Ospreys in a mouth-watering derby clash on September 17.

Dragons' kit is also looking sleek, and features their new club crest. They kick off their URC campaign with an away trip to Edinburgh on September 17.

The ones causing all the fuss - Cardiff Rugby. The capital-based region have a bold new away strip with red and black detailing. They start their campaign against Munster at home, on the opening night of the new URC campaign, September 16.

The home shirt is a nod to the jersey worn 25 years ago during the 1997-1998 season. The alternate kit follows a similar trend, "with a traditional red and black colour scheme taking inspiration from the chevrons, which feature in the club’s logo and the city’s coat of arms".
