Argos in Cardiff Bay will be closing this year, leaving a number of jobs at risk. It has been confirmed that the store in Cardiff Bay Retail Park is set to close in July for good.
A staff member, who wishes to remain anonymous, has claimed that 50 staff members' jobs are at risk at the store, which has been in the retail park for decades. A spokesperson for Argos has said that opportunities to redeploy staff from the Cardiff Bay site, which employs between 50 and 60 people, within Sainsbury's are being explored, adding "our priority is to redeploy as many as possible."

Argos is reducing its number of standalone stores and is instead increasing the number of collection points in Sainsbury's stores. By March 2024, it is expected that there will be around 160 standalone Argos stores, 430-460 Argos stores inside Sainsbury’s supermarkets, and 450-500 collection points. In October 2021, it was announced that Argos's High Street unit in Swansea would be closing and re-locating to Sainsbury's in Quay Parade.
An Argos spokesperson said: “We are talking to our colleagues at Cardiff Bay Argos following the difficult decision to close the store. We understand this will be an unsettling time for those affected and we are supporting them in every way we can, including exploring opportunities to redeploy within Argos and Sainsbury’s.
“We regularly review our property estate and the decision to close a store is never taken lightly and is based on a range of factors. The store is expected to close in July 2023.”
