Cardiff announce flanker's surprise exit as contract mutually terminated

Back row forward Will Boyde is to leave Cardiff Rugby at the end of this season. He joined the Blue and Blacks from the Scarlets in 2019 and has made 32 first team appearances.

However, it has now been mutually agreed that the 27-year-old will be released from the remainder of his contract.

He said: “I would like to thank everyone at Cardiff for the last three years. I have enjoyed my time at the Arms Park, made some great friends and will always be grateful for both the opportunity I was given and the support I received from the fans. I am now looking forward to the next chapter in my life.”

Director of rugby Dai Young commented: “Will has been an important player for us this season and has obviously been involved in a good number of games. He is a player who always gave his all on the pitch and can be very proud of his career. On behalf of everyone at Cardiff Rugby, I would like to wish Will all the very best for the future.”

Former Wales U20s international Boyde made 83 appearances for the Scarlets before making the switch to the Arms Park. He quickly established himself as first team regular, but spent much of last season on the sidelines with a serious facial injury.

He has made 11 appearances this term, with his last outing being in early April, and he will become the eleventh player to depart the club following the likes of Rhys Gill, Jason Tovey and the retiring Hallam Amos.

Cardiff are bringing in Wales back row duo Taulupe Faletau and Thomas Young for next season, along with Tongan back five forward Lopeti Timani and back three star Liam Williams.
