Over £700,000 is being spent to install air quality monitoring equipment in schools and nurseries across South Lanarkshire.
The carbon dioxide detectors will be put in every school and learning space in the area, and the installation will cost over £730,000.
The measures will help to maintain adequate ventilation levels and also help to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Council Leader John Ross said: “Thanks to the council’s far-sighted rebuilding programmes, all our schools are modern and fit for purpose, so we have no concerns in relation to high levels of CO2.
“However, nothing is more important than the care of our children, so putting these additional monitors in place will provide further assurance.”
The executive committee agreed to increase the 2021-2022 capital programme to include an additional £299,000 awarded by the Scottish Government to purchase and install more monitors – this added to the £433,000 awarded earlier this year.
