Leeds United could discover their third round Carabao Cup opponents on Wednesday evening providing they overcome Barnsley. The Whites will be looking to continue their fine start to the season when they host the League One side at Elland Road by progressing to the next stage of the competition.
The remaining seven Premier League teams who qualified for Europe last season are set to enter in the third round, including current holders Liverpool. Though the exact date for the third-round draw has not yet been confirmed, it is likely to take place live on Sky Sports following the conclusion of Newcastle United’s trip to Tranmere Rovers.
This was the case in the previous stage of the competition as Leeds found out they would face Yorkshire neighbours Barnsley after Sheffield Wednesday’s win over Sunderland. With all the Premier League big guns now set to enter, Leeds could also face sides from the south of England in the third round as the competition will no be longer split into northern and southern sections.
