The 2022/23 Carabao Cup gets underway this week, and Newcastle United will soon find out who their first opponents will be in this season's competition.
All first round ties will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday evening this week, with Premier League sides welcomed into the next round of the draw. Cambridge United are already into the second round after beating Millwall 1-0 on August 2.
Last year, the Magpies entered at the second round stage of the competition, and were eliminated at the first hurdle. Following a goalless draw with then fellow Premier League side Burnley, the Clarets advanced 3-4 victors on penalties after Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron saw their efforts saved by Wayne Hennessey.

Eddie Howe's side have failed to go past the second round of the competition four times in the last five season, but this could be an excellent opportunity for the Magpies to win a major trophy. Here are a couple of key competition rules to be aware of, plus details of the draw for the next round:
No extra time:
If scores are level after 90 minutes, the tie will go straight to a penalty shoot-out. There will be no extra-time.
Substitutes:
Teams can name up to nine substitutes on the bench, and are allowed to use a maximum of five.
When is the second round draw?
The draw for the second round will take place on Wednesday (August 10), live on Sky Sports, following the end of the televised game between Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland, which kicks off at 7.45pm.
It will be hosted by Sky's new Carabao Cup presenter Mark Chapman, with former Crystal Palace and Birmingham City striker Clinton Morrison and Sunderland hero Michael Gray selecting the ties.
The 13 Premier League clubs not involved in European competitions will enter at this stage, alongside Burnley and Watford from the Championship.
The draw remains regionalised at this point, so will again be split into southern and northern sections.
Second round ties are due to be played during the week beginning August 22.
