Car torched in Lanarkshire street as cops probe deliberate fire

Police are probing a late-night fire incident after a car was torched in a Lanarkshire street.

Shocked residents in Stonehouse woke up to see a car completely burnt out on Friday morning, November 11.

The incident happened on Marleyhill Avenue in the village at around 12.10am.

Fire crews rushed to the scene and tackled the blaze, as cops were also in attendance.

Locals in the area have also told how officers were seen again later that morning probing the scene.

One concerned Stonehouse resident told Lanarkshire Live : "It's worrying that something like this can happen in your own street.

"It's a quiet road and there's never any problems so it's quite concerning.

"Hopefully the police find out what happened as soon as possible."

Enquiries are currently ongoing into the incident but police say they are treating the fire as deliberate.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told us : “We received a report of a car on fire on Marleyhill Avenue, Stonehouse, around 12.10am on Friday morning.

“The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire. There were no reports of any injuries.

“The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101.

Information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
