Car set on fire in Edinburgh Asda car park as burnt out shell remains cordoned off

The shell of a burnt out car has been spotted in the car park of a busy Edinburgh Asda store.

Shoppers noticed what appears to be the remains of a black Skoda which was set alight and left burning last week as fire crews rushed to the scene during the early hours.

Despite the incident taking place on May 14, the vehicle is yet to be recovered with several railings placed around it. A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue confirmed crews attended a car which was "well alight" at 1am before extinguishing the blaze.

It is understood there were no reported injuries as a result of the fire and nobody was present at the scene when the emergency services arrived.

One shopper, who noticed the vehicle on Sunday, May 21, said it could be a hazard if not removed promptly. They added: "We just went in for a few things in Asda and noticed the remains of the car surrounded by metal railings.

"It looks like it has been there for a while as there is a sign attached to it from Asda so it is obviously waiting to be picked up but I'm sure if it is left any longer it could attract vandals or even kids so I don't think it's safe.

"It's certainly not what you expect to see in the car park of a supermarket anyway." Police Scotland were approached for comment.
