A driver had to be freed from his stricken motor after it plunged off a bridge before landing upside down in an East Lothian river. Emergency services were called to the scene at the Old Tyne Bridge in East Linton shortly before 11.30pm on Thursday, August 17, following reports of a one vehicle crash.
The 46-year-old motorist was handed into the care of paramedics before being rushed to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he was said to be in a stable condition. A picture from the scene shows the car lying on the river bed with its boot lying open while damage to the bridge wall above can also be seen.
The roadway remains closed with buses diverted while a police investigation into the circumstances of the crash remains ongoing. It is understood that a specialist recovery operation will need to be launched to remove the destroyed motor.
